Best value in house movement

Hi guys,

I was thinking the other day how pricey Rolex watches are. Then I started thinking about which other watches one can get a a lower price point with an in house movement. Ignoring ETA and Japanese watches, I could not think of many (Breitling and Omega came to mind quickly, but even then at RRP, they are close to Rolex money).

Is Rolex the best value in house brand? Surely not. Which other brands make an in house (not based on ETA ebauche) value watch?

Thanks
Greg

Zenith should definitely be on that list - especially the lengendary El Primero movement - all in-house; and at very reasonable prices.

indeed
I still wonder why most people overlook this brand

It shoulnd not be in 'that list', it better than that list

The El Primero is imo the most interesting movement EVER made. Not talking about being the best finished, the best exexcuted, the most accurate, the most beautifull, the most ...
But is you look at all the different criteria together it is the most important movement ever made

Interestingly, I know Zenith from its association with Rolex (pre 2000). I had considered it briefly, but dismissed it on the basis that it is probably too expensive. I was wrong. I checked now and significant discounts can be had in the grey market getting many of the watches in this range in the $5k to $6k bracket. Possibly doesn't bode well for resale, but you are getting a great movement for very reasonable $.

It's on the list now

I like Maurice Lacroix and they're producing in house movements now. Good value IMHO.

I know what you mean, their dress watches like the Reversos and Master Conrols are very well made at good prices and are sought after, but their sports models like the MC chrono are very busy and cluttered and the Navy Seals doesnt quite do it for me.
