Anyone have UPS lose a package? Fearing the worst.

I'm in a situation where I was in a position to buy a watch, a shipping label was created on Saturday morning, and was promised for delivery this morning.

The seller sent the package from a UPS Store location, and was given assurance that it would go out. I trust the seller, don't trust UPS.

However, all weekend, and even now, UPS is stating that although a label was created, that no package has come through any of their receiving or processing centers.

It is our fear that the package has gone dark.

I've already started to pry and prod with UPS to get them to locate the package, and in my experience UPS status reporting has been a little delayed, but this situation is not looking good.

Anyone have any happy ending stories to help alleviate our paranoia?

Did you contact the seller? he should have the shipment receipt.

2. Ups hasn't updated the system because it is a weekend.

3. Ups isn't an airport baggage claim, Everything they do is tracked by code so if that label actually went on the package it will turn up.

Keep in mind that Ups stores are privately owned so what they tell you might not really be the truth or fact.
Thanks for the reply, re: 1)seller has said he dropped it off, and I believe him, 2) yeah I was hoping that was the case but even Monday as of now it still says same thing and 3) that's what I'm hoping for.

I did, he said he's going to send the receipt today, hopefully we can get UPS' attention to find this package. We're hoping the employee at the UPS store just left this package off to the side somewhere in the store and forgot.

Or you may ask him to make an inquiry at the place he dropped the shipment. The seller should be as concerned if not more than you.

If he got a scan and receipt it should be in the system. If he simply dropped it off and has an online receipt he may or may not have dropped it off is what UPS will say. I always get them to scan the package into their system so my insurance is covered. Will never just drop it off. Gluck on your package.

I understand your fears but I think you can relax. It is "only" Monday morning... give them a bit of time... (I understand that you have no doubts about the seller).

If using UPS, always drop off at a UPS facility, not a UPS store. Dropping off at a privately owned UPS store will negate all third party insurance (ParcelPro, etc). UPS stand alone insurance does not cover watches/jewelry over $500 (if memory serves me right), so even if you used UPS and insured for $10k they are only obligated to pay out $500 due to the fine print.

This happens a lot at UPS stores, and the reason that the major third party players won't let you drop off at UPS store. You really have no recourse if the package was stolen outside of suing the individual who owns the UPS store.

Hopefully it's just a tracking snafu. UPS isn't the best for updating tracking, but usually when you request a tracer on a package they are able to at least hunt down the last place it was.

Good luck Eddie!

Matt thanks for this info, will definitely heed this in the future as well!

Thanks for all the replies fellas, both of us are on the phone with UPS as well as the physical location, will post an update as soon as possible.

Fingers crossed......

Echoing what Matt said above, if he did drop it off he should've gotten a receipt with the tracking number on it as proof of drop off. However a UPS store is not considered to be a "company store" like a UPS hub (UPS staffed) and unfortunately depending on the third party insurance carrier he used to ship it might not be covered. I would suggest you/ him calling the specific location and asking them to do a search of the store, maybe its in a corner somewhere and being overlooked (happened to one of my package before). Hopefully it turns up for you.

great advice above,i hope it works out for you, i lost a package in the system and they were ready to put through a lost claim for insurance, then after being missing for 5 days, no movement on the computer tracking system, it mysteriously turned up and started to move in the system again, so be patient they may still find the item, brushed aside in some warehouse.

I bought something and UPS delivered it a week late (just got it last friday), and the tracking was frozen and did not update. However, I still received the package... Seems like they are running a bit behind! I think you'll be fine.

I stopped using UPS for high value stuff after I had an issue last year. I now only use FedEx and USPS for watches.

I know people who have lost Fedex. I used to use fedex but I find UPS better and cheaper. I am one of the lucky ones that live 1 mile away from a UPS hub and Parcel Pro office where I drop off all of my packages. after obtaining a receipt, I email a photo of it to the buyer.

Guys sorry for the late reply.

So the UPS Store had claimed that UPS had already picked the package up, but UPS mainframe had no record of doing so.

It was only after a couple real pushy phone calls did we get the manager of the UPS Store look into it, sure enough it popped up in the system the next day late in the evening.

As to what happened, we will never know, but for $230, the package wasn't even close to arriving close to what they had promised. The seller let me know that he was going to have the shipping fees refunded, so that was a positive aspect.

All in all, for me, I stick to Fedex overnight by noon for everything, and just for my comfort level, will continue to do so.

Thanks all for all the feedback and help!
