I've been thinking about this for some time now. After trying a variety of Panerai watches over the years, I've decided that I am a 44mm Luminor guy. What better watch than the 233? A dot dial? Even better! Well, I stumbled upon one and here we have my first addition for 2013. Excuse me now as I go and try on a bunch of strap combinations!

That is sexy! I have the am/pm version. From an aesthetics point of view, there's no beating the dot.

Super congrats!! I would be happy with the 233 as my only watch for the rest of my days!

Thanks everyone. I just want to share a little something unexpected. I've owned both a 312 and 351 with the new strap change buttons. Neither of those came with a tool as nice as the one with the 233. This one is made of metal, not plastic!

My 233 am/pm came with the plastic strap changing thingy. I use wooden toothpicks anyway as my hand is far from steady and I want to avoid unnecessary scratches. A metal tool would be a very bad idea for me (though a super cool item to have!).

I could be wrong but the metal strap changer isn't oem. You can find them on ebay. But, I've never owned a new 233 before, so maybe this is a new strap change tool.

That would be disappointing if true (though not a huge deal to me). The thing connects together really well and has a nice brushed metal polish. It does make me wonder why someone would want to fake a Panerai tool with more expensive material than Panerai use though.

I almost bought one because the letters on mine rubbed off very easily. The strap changing tools are plastic and I've heard of someone's breaking/cracking before. Maybe ask the seller.

Edit: I didn't buy it after others recommended not since its metal and could scratch, thus the reason the oem is plastic. The oem CAN be found however, but not cheap.

Just a little research over on Paneristi shows that the push pin tool was definitely different for the first series 233 (I believe one of if not the first to use the system) than those today. The shape of those is consistent with the one that came with mine (long pointy ends).

Indeed many over the years appear to recommend the toothpick method. The case itself is in good condition, but the pins are definitely scuffed from the metal tool. So I guess there's no reason for me to stop using it unless I get new pins (which I won't do).
