I'm Beginning to Hate my Hotmail!
Actually, I've made the switch from Hotmail to Outlook.com, but the issue is the same.
Recently, since a big hack against MS and Yahoo, it's getting to be too big a pain in the ass to get into my email. I type with my keyboard on my lap. I like it that way, but sometimes I'm not as accurate as I could be. Now, when I try to log into my Outlook.com account, I have to jump through all kinds of hoops because I hit a wrong key and all of this is done, MS claims, to protect me. If I hit a wrong key, not only do I have to re-type the password, but I have to do one of those "Capcha" things, or whatever it's called. And not only that, but this stays like this for a period of time and so when I log back in, even if I get it right, I've screwed enough times that they make me type the password, read a scolding notice, re-enter the pasword and the "Capcha" thing. So, I decided to change my password to something simple. It wouldn't let me, because it has to be a complicated password. So, I made the password complicated, but less complicated than before and guess what! I can't change my password because I've screwed up too many times. I only need email so that I can do business on the internet and sadly, so that a bunch of knuckleheads I gave my email address to can send the most inane BS that fills up their inboxes--oh yeah, and spam. I'm getting pretty fed up with this situation.

Never had a hotmail account, but I agree outlook is a major pain, so I only use it to work my Comcast address, which I only give to people I don't care about and never bother replying to.

Grady, when I first got email back in the day (earthlink) I used it for everything. It didn't take long before all the spam was hitting it with hotel offers etc. that I had to wade through 40 emails just to get to the one business email that mattered.
So I opened a separate account just for business and people I know personally and opened a hotmail account for everything else (registering on websites, booking hotels, etc.). Works like a charm. Years later and my important email account still gets essentially no spam in the inbox.

I also have a spam trap and I guess that maybe it's time for me to kill off my current Hotmail account and transfer all my business email, as in online shopping, to a new Comcast account.
At least, it's easy to get into my Comcast account. I don't see how this new model is going to help MS at all, as I can't be the only one who mistypes a password from time to time.

Actually I do have a gmail account. I had to open one when I set up Google+ on my phone.
However, every time I try to access it from my computer, they want me to open a new account and I just can't seem to get past that page. I don't know. Maybe I'm just losing it.

I certainly agree that hoop jumping is an extremely frustrating pastime.
The only possible thing I could suggest would be to try typing with your keyboard on a desk. I could never master the ergonomics of typing with a keyboard on my lap! |

My email addresses are both from small independent ISP's. Works like a charm. Both have webmail if I need to, but very seldom do I need the webmail. Use the mail app in OS X, and mail app in iOS.
Another added bonus is that my primary one is andreas@.... Which I like. Not andreas232@.... If you get my point.

Have you tried 1Password Pro? I use it. Works really well.
it keeps all your passwords, even generates new ones if required, double clicking on the address of your e mail in Password Pro will take you there and log you in. There are also apps for iPhone/Pad and Android that work really well and sync when you change a password on any of your devices. https://agilebits.com/onepassword Have a look, see what you think.

Gmail is far better but, and don't take this the wrong way, repeated entry of incorrect passwords is always going to trigger a response from a credible security system. Imagine if you presented someone else's password at passport control....

I have hotmail, but since I use outlook (the application) to log in and grab my mail I don't have these problems. The application remembers the credentials and signs in upon launching it and it grabs most of the spam in a junk mail folder. The Outlook application cost money, but I've always used Microsoft Office anyway.
So there are a number of different ways to go about this.

Hotmail and especially yahoo flood me with so many ads that my old and slow computer grinds almost to a dead stop .... Seems like the ad space is everywhere now and the ads are much more complicated now. Gmail is pretty good.
