6605: fake, real or pieced together?

I am looking at this watch tomorrow http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-ROLEX-6...item29fa819209 from ebay; the seller happens to be in the same town where I live.

(Rotated the first listing pic 90° to see the hands better; more pix online)

What strikes me as odd:

a) the hands – it looks as if the hour and the minute hand do not match, the latter resembling a mangled Dauphine if I'm correct
b) a gold dial with a white date wheel?
c) no TswissT ?
d) the sn is listed as 345632 - I have a list of s/n from 1946 to 1987 (forget to note source; durn), and according to that there are no six-digit s/n's except in 1957 and 1958, which started with 6... and 8... S/n's starting with 3... were used 1971 through 1973, but this watch should be from the 50s or 60s if I'm not mistaken.

As I'm writing this post I'm getting more and more suspicious. What is your opinion?

Serial number is in the right range for a 6605 ( there is a good serial number chart in the TRF reference section). Dial is refinished, although markers appear correct. Hands have been replaced. I'd wonder what else may have been altered.

On the plus side..... IMO the price is too high. Oh wait, that's not a plus.

to expensive, the lugs and bezel are way overpolished and the shape is compromised imho there are better examples, the watch should have dauphine or alpha hands, the dial is refinished, but at least the single and double arrow head or some call them dart markers remain.

The dial has definatly suffered from a poor refinish.

Yup, and what about the non-matching hands?

Btw, I didn't go see the watch; waste of time.

The current Rolex Datejust model in solid 18K on a gold/lether strap retails for $18K or so. I was offered a brand new white gold model for $13,600 by an AD in the virgin islands and I seriously considered it. So, as far as 'replacement' cost, he's not too far away, assuming replacing with a current model. Also, I agree that $4k is too much for this watch, but around $3k would be reasonable.
