Help - can't see the LEC on new watch.
I just bought this on Saturday at the boutique in New York (my first Rolex). The photo definitely doesn't do it justice. Black mother of pearl face makes it hard to photograph (at least for me). Problem is that I can't see the LEC. Have used a flashlight but just can't see it. Does anyone know if this particular model omits the etching because of the diamond markers or am I just blind? Any feedback would be awesome.

First of all --- Is it an F, D, Z and later serial number watch? If yes, only then you will have the LEC.
ok this is what you do. Wear the watch on your wrist like you do. Then take a flashlight, turn it on and orient the flashlight such that the light is shining from the 12'o clock position and is aimed towards the 6'o clock section. You should be able to see it then. Or take it out in the sunlight and look really hard, while rotating the watch ever so slightly and it should become visible. Keep it close to your eye. It is also possible that the LEC might be at any location from 6 to 9!. Some have found it at the 9.0 clock position! ha ha ha... But the fact that you are having trouble seeing it is GOOD NEWS, pointing towards authenticity of the watch! LEC has nothing to do with what is on the dial. It is etched between the crystal --- it is the cheese in a cheese sandwich! |

Hold it at a steep angle away from you to one side so that you are not looking straight on at the 6 o'clock marker, I used a loupe to find mine this way and it was still pretty hard to see. Don't give up you'll find it.

If you bought it at the Boutique, you have nothing to worry about. A loupe sometimes helps in finding the LEC as well.

Thanks everyone! The serial number has both a Q and an R in it..... I'm not really worried that it isn't authentic since I bought it at the boutique (excellent customer service BTW) it just bugs me that I can't see the LEC. Seems like a special little "extra" touch and I want to SEE it...ha ha. Think I will go to my local jeweler and ask to use his loupe. These things can really be addictive. Now I see why so many of you guys own more than one.

I can see it with my naked eye on watches with a silver/white dial. Dark dials I need a led or laser.

It definitely does not require a laser! As others have suggested, please use great care (and safety gear) if you use a laser to find the LEC.
Mine is easily and clearly visible with the naked eye with nothing more than a hand-held flashlight shining from 12:00-6:00 across the crystal. This shot taken with a small LED flashlight, but any light should work:
