Can you ID This strap ?

So I stumbled onto this explorer which looks to be on a deep blue strap (it's actually black) which I think looks great.

Can anyone help me identify what it is (lizard?) who makes and or where I might find something similar in deep blue? When I google blue straps it returns mostly unpleasant light blue or garish neon shades

Looks like stingray skin. You can find them on most of the major strap sites.

I dont think its stingray to me this has a more matte finish

I can't help you with who makes it but it really does look good with that Explorer doesn't it?
Have you found your birth year Explorer yet?

No....but I think I now have watch disease. Maybe because its 2013 and all the 50 yr olds are beating me to them or its a rare year for rolex ( I know that was a gilt dial year...out of my price range )

But to answer your question, instead I found a beautiful 1963 Omega Constellation that was not very expensive, and so it's out of my system and maybe I can get on with my life !! This is crazy.

But that's the finish. If it's a real hide then the only one I know of with this epidermal pattern is a stingray. It can be tanned to have any kind of result (Shinny or matte).

Any idea where to look? When I google stingray bands I've visited 10 or more sites and none look like this

This isn't exactly like the one in photo with the Explorer, but it's close. My guess is that stingray bands get more matte over time.

You are likely right. It could be that I just hit on a photo that hit me just right, otherwise the stingray straps I am seeing I don't think I would like

I'm in the lizard camp also. If it was sanded stingray, the pebbled texture would be a combination of different sizes. The lizard skin is a more uniform scale.
