Do you think that hans wilsdorf (founder of rolex) would be satisfied with the evolution of rolex watches ?

I think he would be ecstatic..

You know old Hans was not a watchmaker.. He started buying movements from Herman Aegler, and buying his cases, and then putting them together to make money.. It wasn't 'til later that Aegler changed their name to The Rolex Watch Co.

But he was an innovator, responsible for the 500 or so patents that Rolex cranked out.. He was also responsible for the marketing genius behind the waterproof case, accurate wrist-watches, and the customers fascination with a "certified" watch..

He would be pleased....very pleased....

He would have been emptionally satisfied, but also financially satisfied.

I think Rolex has expanded their line to appease the wide variety of tastes out there. Even though I don't approve of all models.

I think the wide variety of models available would please him because a large range of tastes are addressed. Many happy customers! The marketing would also be viewed as a success, too, IMHO. As soon as he figured out the computer, somebody would be revamping the website, though.

Funny that you should ask, Velitsko, since I wondered about that some days ago, as well.

Design-wise (bling-bling), current Rolex watches are far from the original, understated design of Rolex watches. In that respect, I believe Hans Wilsdorf would not be happy, to express it mildly.

However, movement-wise (and concerning other upgrades such a the sapphire crystal) would please him, no doubt about it. I think Rolex had reached its pinnacle in terms of precision and sturdiness of their movements.

I think he would certainly be satisfied. Rolex has worked, as Bo states, to remain at the leading edge of the industry in terms of ruggedness and accuracy. I also believe he would be satisfied with the vast majority of the lines, though some lines contain more bling versions than others.

I'd be most interested to hear his thoughts on the new Milgauss!
