Passion or Fashion ??
So you bought yourself a new/used Rolex....
Well, good for you Did you get it just because you saw your favorite celeb wearing one ? Or did you buy it for the horological significance of the brand ? Or was there another reason ? ..............Why ?? C'mon...it's a simple question

I like the design of Rolex better than any other brand and I've had a Rolex since 1980 (pre celeb phenom days).

Why? Because I could. Then fell in love with the brand. Had to get a sport model and the GMT had all the features I would/ could use.

People ask me this all the time. I tell them that I just like having a tiny complex machine on my wrist. Mechanical watches are just so cool. I could go buy a diamond but it dosent do anything. At least a watch looks cool and does something.

I already know the quality of Rolex watches, so basically I buy what I like design-wise when I choose a Rolex watch.

There is something to be said about a SS and black watch. I always new I wanted a SS Rolex, I just had to wait for the right time. I always thought I would get a Sub Date, but ended up with the GMT II instead.

Bought it for the name, history, James Bond, Magnum P.I. and because being able to purchase one meant a certain level of success - success not status. I've since fallen in love with the quality and will be a life long fan because of it.

Because I admire the technical marvel that it is. Same reason I had the clear caseback installed so I could see the movement in operation.

I got mine because John Travolta is a famous actor and pilot. He is also a spokesman for Rolex. He is the reason I got my Rolex. I love John....If it weren't for him I would have gotten something else. John and Rolex are the best and really go together.

With me it would have to be the intense passion I've had for the brand over 3 long decades.
I'd never go by what some celeb wears on the screen.....although, in all fairness, I would be thrilled if I saw one of my models (either Bluesy or Platty) being worn by someone in a magazine or on the screen. JJ

I've always wanted one but didn't think I'd ever get a Rolex. Like JJ, I'd be thrilled to see a celebrity wearing a TT Blue Sub. I got this because a friend of mine has one and it's a memorable looking watch>

Definitely passion! I've been into watches since I was a little girl. Rolex is the ultimate brand IMO, and from my experience, I prefer to wear Rolex over anything else. Craftsmanship, originality, beauty, etc....

I got my first one because I was fed up with disposable watches dying at a rate ot 2-3 per year. As I was researching the brand prior to my first one, I learned some of Rolex's history and I was impressed. Rolex used to be an agressive innovator, and their commitment to quality and timeless design were also strong factors in my decision. Rolexes change from year to year, but the changes are subtle. A Submariner from 40 years ago is definately recognizable as a Submariner. (In other words, they don't go out of style or look dated.)
I wanted a watch that would last, AND wouldn't be the timekeeping equivilent of parachute pants and Member's Only jackets. That's why I bought a Rolex nearly 18 years ago. I bought the TT Blue Sub earlier this year because I'm fully confident in Rolex now, and I liked it! Rawhyde |

For passion, for the horological significance of the brand (though I didn't know the meaning of that word before I started hanging around forums like this one :-p) and I just flat love watches. I've always wanted a Rollie, so I got one.

I think Rolex has the best design and quality out there in the market. It must be, for those that can afford one or more than one it seems to be the watch of choice from what I've seen.

Because it's a classic, iconic design that is neither in fashion or out of fashion - it is beyond fashion. It is what it is.

For me it was definitely the passion. The feel, looks, and craftsmanship.
