All I want for New Year is a brand new home!!

That' right, guys. Unfortunately, I've become a victim of the "leaky building syndrome" prevailent in a few countries around the world.

The good news is that about 65% of our complex has been completed (work commenced on 1st May 07).....and I've now been shunted out of my unit last week.

This is my temporary abode....only the corner one on the ground floor!

These are pics of the units in my line of units. These should be ready for occupancy by mid or 3rd week of Jan.

And here are my block of units. They have started work on the back. This is the front section.

I'm in unit # 60!!

This is the back of my unit all ripped open....

New beam has just replaced a very water-logged and rotted one...

My lounge, carpet all screwed up with moisture and water seepage - so I get a brand new carpet!!

My kitchen counter...

Upstairs master bedroom.....new carpet coming here too!!

Thanks, Karis. Hopefully, we can be back by 3rd week of Feb. At least, ONE move is over - now I can just hope the next one takes place asap.

Just came home from a get together before New Years Eve JJ. Hope the house rebuild goes well! Nothing like "Home Sweet Home".

My home is only about 5 years old and the roofer did not correctly install the shingles in the area of my son's closet. That part of the roof was leaking water slowly into the closet framing area - it was a bitch to fix since warranty was over. Nevertheless fixed.

I somehow know how you feel esp with water damage and leakage.

Thanks, Vernon. In our case, the whole place was leaking. Poor outer cladding, untreated timber and terrible workmanship.

The good news is that we now have a team of very professional guys sorting it all out!!

Since July 1999. It took us 2 years to discover the "leaky" thing.....and then spent literally thousands on Lawyers fees.

Thank God it was finally settled last December and work began in full swing in May 2007.

Now we should be all hunky dory by June 08.

I'll need to go back and read up on your "leaky building" discussions - I'm not very clear on the issue, but was aware there were troubles... all the result of rain getting in?

At our new house, the bulk of repairs had to do with water damage. The previous owners had let a leaky roof go for years and we had lots and lots of damage - much of which was hidden away under wallpaper and revealed when we stripped it off.

I hope when all the work at your place is completed it'll feel like a brand new home with no more worries, JJ!

Thanks, Elaine. More than 60% of the complex has been finished since May 07.

Another 5 or 6 months and we should be all done. I expect to move back into my unit # 60 (see pic above) by 3rd week of Feb. hopefully!!

Let this be a lesson to you, JJ - when the sign says "Max capacity 80 sheep", don't go overloading the structure!

What happened to proper workmanship? I bought a new house, too, and the mistakes were horrible - but at least I didn't get kicked out while they repaired them. Better luck in /08, JJ!

Hey that looks like a very cozy home you are going to have there ( when it is done of course!) my friend CONGRATULATIONS!

I know exactly what you are going through as we are currently in the process of moving ourselves we just took possession of a new home and are currently moving there from our condo.

Any local TRFers wanna help me lift some boxes?

This is where you'll hear, "Oh, gotta go wash my dog!" "Gee, my in-laws are here from out of town..." "Oh, I'd love to, but my friend's daughter's mom's ex-husband is having toe surgery..."

No worries, pal....the one thing I'd never sacrifice is on would be good food and our good health.

Hopefully, I can still afford to hang on to both my Rollies before we get the final bill in June 08!!

The good thing, of course, is I'm completely debt free which is a great help!!

Too true there Lisa! One of my friends told me he had to wait all day for the Salvation Army to come pick up some furniture he was donating... I was thinking I could ask the guy from Sally Arm to lend me his truck?

These are times when you find out who your true friends are... no?
