The Watch Snob Answered My Rolex Question

I wrote the one on Rubber B. Of course he was obnoxious, but what do you expect from him:

I agree with the WS most of the time. Rubber, especially aftermarket, is sloppy in my opinion. Have to agree on the nato straps too. Once the hipster crowd found them, I ditched mine.

Perhaps one day he will actually have a Rolex and can then speak with some actual authority on the topic of how to wear one.

Then he's being successful.

His (their) job, I think, is to simply annoy people and be controversial. It's entertainment after all.

And I found it quite entertaining!

The guy is a douche, has no clue and no class.

Hence, I'm not saying it looks better than the bracelet, it doesn't, but it sure doesn't suck.

I get a kick out of the WS myself and at times he/they do seem to hit the nail on the head on certain brands and trends.

I like the Watch Snob and in this case I do think that he's on target with his observations.

This, however, should not be construed as a blanket condemnation of rubber or nylon straps on Rolex watches or any other brands.

I personally don't much care for any kind of strap and that's why I almost always wear a watch with a bracelet. I actually own one watch that has a nylon strap and another that has a leather strap and I do occasionally wear them.

I don't spend much time worrying about the method others use to affix timepieces to their wrists, but then, I'm not paid to be the Watch Snob.

I always thought he answered his own made up questions... Can't believe someone would actually care what his opinion would be (sorry OP)

The mere fact that he is the topic of discussion shows that he's successfully doing what he needs to do - garner attention for their advertising clients. And I clicked on the link above and was just exposed to a Home Depot ad. He's fun entertainment.

I find the snob to be very enter-nnoying.

Congrats to the OP for avoiding being named a "watch knob!"

What about Richard Mille?

So, He probably thinks Mille and other high end watches on rubber are also wrong. But if they sell and people like them, whats wrong with that?

I would love an Aquanaut on Rubber. I think it looks great. The watch head on a sport strap is cool. No need to over damage the steel band. Also gives a different feel.

The column is clearly written with tounge firmly in cheek. I get a kick out of it, and many of the observations are on track, though obviously presented in an over the top way. But that's satire for ya...

Nice! I enjoy reading the WS articles. I do get a laugh though at people sending him notes and do lots of name dropping like Patek, Audemars, and then go on to say something that negates everything they just said.

Seems like back in the 70's there was the option, it was when I first starting shopping for a Rolex 73 or 74. May have been offered just by the AD I was shopping. At the time I was looking at the Sub, the GMT and the Exp II.
Rubber was offered only on the Sub, FYI I ended up buying a GMT but not until 1978. That first one cost my wife $550.

I like to think of WS as a watch etiquette comedy-genius! Some interesting points wrapped up in sarcastic & blunt comedy gold!

That's my take on it too. I find the articles quite amusing. I think the key word here is satire.
