Classic 36mm Datejust - too small?

I'm thinking of getting the 36mm Datejust, white dial with Roman numerals. I have some questions for Datejust owners:

1) do you find it difficult adjusting to the smaller size if your other regular wearers are 40/44mm, like the GMT ceramic and Deepsea?

2) which version is more popular, the one with the smooth steel bezel or fluted white gold bezel? Is it worth paying the extra for the latter?

Any input would be much appreciated. Cheers!
