Reasons for keeping your rolex

Thought I would jot some of my logic as a WIS about owning and keeping my Rolex. Over the years, like many people I have owned many a timepiece. Towards the end I owned Omega's in order to plug the need/want for a Rollie. I'm not wealthy in the western culture sense of the word, and on occasions have thought what I could do with a couple of thousand quid around the house etc. The thought occurs should I sell the Rollie buy myself, say, an Omega and with the extra cash released use that for other projects etc.
Well if you've had these experiences, here is my reasoning.
1) I love watches especially the Rolex Brand
2) I have proved in the past, that no other brand satifys my watch needs as a Rolex.
3) If I sold, chances would be I would end up spending more money down the line coz I would have to have a Rolex at some point.
4) If things got really tough I would have no probs selling down the line. Experience tells me brands such as Omega simply do not hold a price as well, and are harder to sell second hand.

So I keep the Rolex and enjoy it. knowing quite honestly that i'm actually saving money. If I calculated since the age of seventeen what I've spent buying other watches in order to avoid the Rolex lust, well this recent purchase in the long run will save save save, plus bring lots of WIS pleasure. So I hope this tale helps someone.

Just think of the cash saved by not buying watch batteries.
It's like money in the bank!

If watches are your hobby, then I guess it can make sense to spend most of your discretionary income on them, but $5k or more for a watch is a lot to drop if there are other things you need.

You don't need the watch, so I think you should only buy the watch if you don't need the money either.

Jon,
I agree with your choice. A Rolex is a watch that you will never hate owning. Life is too short not to have a fine watch like a Rolex. Enjoy

If you have a roof over your head, the family isn't going hungry, kids education/investments/retirement is on track, debt is under control, then go ahead with the Rolex.

Yep, all in order. I see a lot of need and on times get a pang, that the money on my wrist could be used in other ways. Saying that, it dosent stop me from supporting causes each month. Its a mind game I suppose. I was brought up with not a halfpenny to rub together. I've worked since I left school and in some pretty grotty jobs on times.

There we are, had my session on the couch.

Might want to space those payments out a bit. No sense paying it all off and leaving yourself short for the month.

I am keeping my collection because they were the exact Rolex watches that I planned very carefully on obtaining, I love them all, wear them all in rotation, they are representative of a broad spectrum of the Rolex models, and I just have no plans to flip any of them!

Thanks, Bill. A lifetime of planning for a Rolex purchase, and obtained all of them in a one-year span of time. It must have been right!

Prince, that is a fabulous collection.

Jon, don't tell the people on the Omega forums that you only bought them plug the need for a Rolex. They'll have your guts for garters.

Thanks for the kind words, John. You will get there with your collection - patience is a virtue indeed when it comes to acquiring these babies! Best of luck with your collection!
