Calling all 1665 DRSD Experts

I'm in the market for a pristine DRSD, and came across this beauty. As I'm still learning, just wanted to make sure if anybody sees anything that looks "off." Thanks in advance.

hi, the watch looks good, but for a comprehensive judgment you should provide, at least, 3 digits of serial number, and a couple of pics between the lugs.

I wouldn't buy that because case looks over polished. Look at the crown guards

A seadweller is great because of its thick case. This one lacks that key ingredient

that case is fine for most vintage collectors, there's plenty of metal left in it ..its been polished sure...but so have most watches that have soul :).vintage watches aren't new watches nor do most people expect them to be...and i'm telling you now ..as more n more comes out about the laser welding and sudden number of 'nos' never polished cases that have appeared in the last 18mths i'll bet you that goes back to being the norm even in the forums that have built this idea up on chinese whispers.

much more important on a drsd is the dial, even if it isn't chipped now, if it hasn't beens serviced in a long time you are running the risk of it chipping when it does get serviced...and that could be a 4k chip.

OP if you are seriously considering that one the bigger concern would be the lighting and the photoshopping that are stopping you seeing any details in that dial for its actual condition, though from those scans looks like ti could be nice .....and as mentioned serial numbers , between lugs, and inside back.

I am not an expert in these vintage subs like some of the previous posters but it Looks pretty nice, but more pictures needed.

It looks pretty nice to me. I would want to see some more pics though between the lugs, movement and the inside of case back as well. Overall not bad though if price is right of course! Cheers,

Beaumont Miller II here having a caffe latte at Russ's aka Bluemartinifan house enjoying his fine hospitality and the gorgeous view of his backyard. To the OP, this is what I look for when I check to see if a DR dial is a correct MK IV. The unique shape of the coronet and the placement of the "L" underneath it, the "closed 6" in the depth rating, and the spacing of the print with the larger "D" in SEA-DWELLER over the "R" in SUBMARINER when seen in combination are correct for the Mk IV. There is a trend lately that I have noticed in a prior thread for fake dials to have some facets of a correct Mk IV dial but not other characteristics. One more thing, the lume should not be puffy but flat...which this one obviously is.

I'm working on getting between the lugs and case back pics, but I do know the serial number is 501xxxx, and it's a Mk IV dial.

And for what it's worth, the seller has said the case has been "lightly polished."

Pics are photoshopped and brightness retouched to hide defects and make the watch look better. Impossible to tell anything meaningful without non-tampered with pics. Hands color looks strange (cafe latte) and there is a nick in the lume at 6 o'clock. Case looks fat and chamfers look nice too. A pity it's in a folded bracelet.

A 5.0 serial on a 1665 would be considered one of the later ones made...no problems as the case back has ROLEX written straight across. If the serial number between the lugs matches the case back and the price is right, it would be one to consider.

Looks like a nice DRSD to me. Patina is nice and case have been tastefully polished and has nice bevels. Is this from Josh at Fourtane? If so, he is a very reputable source. But as others said it would be better to have a picture of the dial in natural lighting to gauge the true condition of it

Nice looking mk4 but you need to get a pic of the dial in high resolution, unphotoshopped and in daylight if you can't get to see it in person with a loupe.
