Congrats Grady, nothing quite like the feeling of not having to "pay the man". Are you going to continue to make payments to yourself as a way to make sure it all goes towards savings?

I won't be making payments, per se, as the amount I put away every month is about 5 times what the payments were, but that account is also for emergencies, charitable causes, and frivolous pursuits.

It grows pretty fast and I'm a frugal guy.

I also appreciate a woman who can drive a stick.

I also understand that in some locales, driving a manual in stop and go traffic for hours can be a little too much to do on a daily basis.

For myself, a three on the tree is what I learned on and all my new cars through the years have been manuals.

I did own two automatics that I bought used, but both of those were only for a short while.

I think my mom lost 20 years of age the day she drove my brandy new 88 MR2. She had a blast and was reluctant to give it back

I miss that car, it was a LOT of fun, as was the 74 260Z when i could keep the carbs in sync

Grady - sadly the wifey is rocking a 2 pedal car now but hilly Seattle commutes are not very 3 pedal friendly.

Linesiders - somewhere buried in my tool chest is the old SU carb synch tool as I had dual SU carbs on my 510 back in the day.

My brother had a couple of mister toos and they were a hoot!

Albuquerque is pretty manual friendly because the city is built on the side of two hills. From the valley going east it's all up hill and going west it's also uphill.

Going north and south, it stays pretty flat.

Now when I go to Colorado Springs to visit friends, I get a quick lesson on just how difficult driving a manual can be, but I adapt pretty quickly. You just don't have the luxury of doing much coasting as you can get away with in Albuquerque.

Nevertheless, I'd still drive a manual almost anywhere I would live, mainly because now that I'm retired I avoid rush hours like the plague and that's really when a manual transmission becomes a real workout.
