Caseback and Case ref# do not match?
Hey guys,
I'm new here and have probably made 100 million mistakes with my first purchase already so please be nice :) I recently purchased a Rolex Oyster Precision which was listed as a 6426 and upon closer inspection of the photos the caseback clearly shows ref number 6427. Upon messaging the seller this is the response i got: "This happened because Rolex used to use the same case back for watches in the similar model, but this watch between lugs have the correct reference, 6426. You can find the similar situation in other models, for example in Rolex Date, with the model 1501 and case backs signed 1500; or ladies Rolex, with reference 6916 or 6917, and the back signed only 6900; or with Air Kings with the correct reference between lugs, 5500, and the case backs signed 1002; and there are more examples because this was a very usual practice for Rolex." this is a link to the item: (mods i hope this is allowed, i apologize if it isn't) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-ROLE...:X:RTQ:US:1123 any thoughts are appreciated. |

Pretty normal...
You also find some that has one number lined out and another number hand stamped in.. Now days Rolex uses generic caseback numbers and no longer puts the model number there as many are interchangeable..

Yes as Larry said it was common practice. More examples were early 62xx Daytona and 5512/13 Subs etc. No worries....Cheers,
