Grandpa's Watches

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum and I am hoping someone can help me. My grandfather was recently put in a nursing home due to dementia. While cleaning out his house, I can across a box of watches. Now, knowing how eccentric my grandfather was when he was younger makes me want to believe that these watches are the real deal, but something about them just isn't right. For instance, one Rolex has a back on it that says "Kish", another one says Philip Persio, and the other one says nothing. None of them are running at the moment, and I know that by seeing the movement, I would be able to tell if they were legit or not, but is there another way to check? Is it common for people back in the day to switch bands and battery covers? I will post pictures below and maybe someone can help me authenticate these watches. The forth watch in the box is a Mathey Tissot in 14k gold. This one winds up and works perfect. Knowing that one is real makes me want to think that the Rolex watches are real as well, but just modified.
Any help that anyone here can offer will be much appreciated. If they turn out to be real they will go a long way towards paying for my grandfather to live the rest of his day with homecare instead of losing his dignity in a nursing home.

Thank you.

Sorry, but the "Rolex" watches are all 100% counterfeit. Rolex never made anything that looks close.

Grandfathers are getting a pretty bad reputation in the TRF Watch Out section.

"Could my grandfather [uncle, etc.] plausibly have owned a Rolex, or multiple luxury watches?"

I always wonder if this question occurs to the posters who offer up these stories. It seems to be at least a sensible starting point. Because most folks of an earlier generation who led very modest lives financially, and weren't consumers of other luxury goods, didnt just happen to hoard Rolexes.

As stated in the original post, my grandfather was a very eccentric man. Along with this hoard of fake rolex watches, he also collected several Porsches, BMW motorcycles, even a BMW Vixen. He was also the part owner of two hotel/casinos in Reno. The man had plenty of money to hoard whatever he wanted. I appreciate your smugness but I am looking for information, not attitude. And now that I have the information needed, thanks to the other members who handle themselves in a respectful manner, I can leave your little playground and you can go piss in someone else sandbox.

You took it personally when my comment was a general musing (i.e., I referred to "posters"). I would never be crass enough to inquire about anyone's, including your family's, personal financial story. But: There are many such narrations posted here, and for sure a lot of them are wildly unlikely to be the real deal.

Yes, he is so rich that he doesn't afford a real Rolex.
Great, you're a genius.

It's not that he couldn't afford a Rolex. It's that he chose to spend his money on things that actually mattered, and gave him enjoyment. Not something that just sits there and screams how shallow you are.

You don't make much sense...as if those Porsches and loads of bmw's mattered...and now you claim he will be put in a nursing home because he can't afford home care...whatever...

Das, the whole point is why even bring up your grandfather at all in this story...why not just validate the watches outright and leave him out of it? By including him then you are adding embarrassment where there didn't even need to be. Seems to be that even mentioning him in this story is bad taste IMO.

How classy! And as you are supposedly in Scottsdale AZ, the fact that rather than take these watches to your local Rolex Authorized Dealer for an evaluation, you choose THE INTERNET is certainly thought provoking, in and of itself. Strange was of using ones time......playing in our "sandbox"..... to you.....

And particularly those who are no longer with us... At least this post had a slightly different version than the usual "deceased grandfather" stories...

Then he should or you should be able to afford his home care.
