Nope, just asked politely, so that I may think it over and reflect. They're like yeah, rock on. Something like that.
Photographing the whole case, they tend to sometimes be a bit particular about that one, so it's hit or miss. |

I have never done it and one can only assume that their concern would be about security with all the smash and grabs lately. I guess all you need to do is ask...

I don't think they would like you taking a picture of the whole case as it could be that your staking out the joint.

As long as they don't think you are casing the place, shouldn't be problem. However, it's all about how you approach the situation. It is private property so they can do whatever they wish to regarding policy or requests.

Never asked about photos, but an AD refused to tell me prices of Rolexes after I pulled out a notepad and intended to write the prices down. I think I went back a couple of times to look around that AD whilst in the area but I never bought anything there, and wouldn't.
FWIW it is closed now, and was in a Mall which gets a lot of "transient" traffic and few repeat customers. |

I have done so on many occasions at my local AD.
Here's Ron Beauchamp posing with his "Hulk," while I try on a Daytona.

I'm afraid there are no Daytonas in my future.
I don't hate the watch, but the models either don't do it for me or they are simply beyond my means. I have a bunch of inexpensive quartz chronographs that I like a lot, but never wear, and starting a couple of days ago, I decided to give them and some other of my cheapos some wrist time. I've never really stopped pondering just which mechanical chronograph will takes its place in my collection. I had longed for an IWC pilot chrono for years, but as far as I'm concerned IWC committed suicide, so that one's out. The Speedy Pro is currently in a leading position and may join the family before year's end, but it depends on whatever else is out there in a $5-7k price range that may win my heart.

...and to keep this from being a hijack, I have never had any trouble taking a pic of the watch if its on my wrist being tried on as a normal customer would do, rather than a wide angle shot of the entire case with out even making an attempt to look and act like an interested customer.

I'm not saying they're bad watches, but IWC chose to take an elegant watch and turn it into something else.

Never had a problem. I've always asked first, though, and only take a picture of the watch on my wrist.

Tried to take a picture inside the RSC and was shut down. Signs on the wall too telling you not to do it.

Yep took pictures at Rolex, Patek and AP dealers. No problem - all it takes is ask politely for permission and snap away.
I was encouraged to take picture in Patek salons in Geneva and London. After all I got to show the watch to my better half ;-). |

Been an issue at my AD because they have been robbed so many times. They had two police officers stationed outside the entrance for a while after the last robbery. I was talking with one of the sales guys and he said they switched to armed security because the cops were costing too much money.

Never had a problem when I was deciding on my next watch... had to take the pictures to text to wife for her opinion. I do this a lot even when clothes shopping on my lunch break and I want her opinion. Fast and simple... and the shops never gives me a hard time, if they did... I'm ready to walk out and take my business else where.
Final decision... Taking pictures like the one's I've posted shouldn't be a problem especially if one is serious on a purchase. Now if one is taking pictures of the complete store layout... Yes, I definitely see how the store owner will say NO to pictures.
