Submariner date v no date.

Aside from personal preference, why choose one over the other?

I actually never know what that date is so I check several times a day. I NEED the date on my watch.

Besides that...I happen to think that the cyclops really looks wonderful.

No date on my 63' 5512 and date on my 70' 1680/8. Why? Because they made them that way back then.

I think in general though I am ok with knowing date thanks to computer, iPhone, iPad and day planner so don't care if it is on my watch.

The obvious reason for one over the other is one has a date feature and cyclops. The other some prefer for it's purity, cleaner look and symmetry. Since the Date Sub outsells the 114060 by a good margin, flipping a Date Sub would probably be quicker.

Choose your bliss.

Sub ND has a cleaner look.... but I need to know the date.
Date or No Date is purely personal preference and/or need.

I just loved the old school style along with the older style lug hole case. I was able to get brand new a 14060M just as they were being discontinued. If I was able to get a lug hole old style case Sub with the date BNIB I might have gotten that one. Being retired I really don't need a date and I love the clean look of the dial on my 14060M. YMMV

My preference is no date on a watch, I do not need it and I like the clean balanced symmetrical dial of a no date watch

I think it is just what you are used to having. I have had a date on my watch for so long now that anything different seems somehow incomplete.

There are days that I really need to know the date and days where I need to stay focused on everything else. There is something very "no-nonsense" about a non-date watch.

Cost perhaps could be a potential factor in some situations?

Sub date retails for more than the sub.

The date costs ~$1000 more, so that's reason enough for a lot of people to buy the 114060 instead.

First of all, this topic is such a softball. Really, asking people on this site to weigh in on a date feature?
Now, for a more pertinent issue, one of which you showed surprising ignorance.

There are two such watches that Rolex makes in this particular line - a Submariner and a Submariner with Date. All the promotional materials make that clear, the Rolex website makes that clear, and so do numerous posters on TRF when this topic inevitably arises. The term No Date is not used. Are we clear?

To not know or make that distinction, in my book, should disqualify a person from owning either.

THIS is a Submariner:

I like the date complication but not the cyclops. This made the SD a good choice for me. Having said that, I like the Submariner's symmetrical dial a lot and will most likely get one as my 2nd Rolex

Own both. Best of both worlds. Own an SD, world complete (IMHO). The Sub Date is iconic due to its cyclops, and the Sub is iconic because its iconic. The choice is really personal preference. I need a date during the week, and non during the weekends. Makes for a pretty good reason to own both.

I like the look of my Sub, and refuse to buy a Sub Date until it also includes the Day feature. I work Monday to Friday, so a Day feature is a must for me.
