Did Rolex ever produce a datejust with a Burgundy dial?

Hello all,

I’ve been keeping an eye out for a Burgundy datejust after seeing one about 6 months ago. However the only time they come up seems to be on ebay and it’s always the same seller. He lists them as having ‘rare’ Burgundy dials, yet he’s got 4 of them listed at the moment!!!!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_od...gundy&_sacat=0

I’m pretty confident from the research I’ve done on the seller, that they have had the dials refinished, the seller has been discussed on a couple of other threads on this forum

My question is did Rolex ever produce the datejust with a Burgundy dial? I do love this watch/colour combination and would love to get a genuine one if they were ever made. I’ve been told on a general watch forum that they weren’t, so I thought I’d pop along here and ask you all for some confirmation.

Thanks

Agreed nice looking color. Rolex produced so many types of DJ dials and given the age, not sure if it is OEM.

Maybe post some larger pics to see if some of the experts here can spot any "tells."

Only thing I can see is it looks to be the age with tritium but the dial says "swiss" not

T swiss T?

Hard to see in the photos. not sure if it should say T swiss T

Ask the seller if it is an OEM dial. If any of the watches listed are re-dialed then just assume they all are.

Cheers for your reply, yeah this is the assumption I've made. I sent a message to the seller last week when he had a couple of others & didn't get a reply, that combined with the comments on the threads I linked to above about the seller from other members on here has already made me think it's probably best to avoid these.

I just put some of the pictures of the 4 he's currently selling as examples, but if anyone is interested in looking closer at more pictures, the link in my first post should take you to the 4 he current has for sale

I'm mainly just looking to find out if Rolex did make them originally, rather than asking about the seller so much. :)

All the dials are T SWISS T marked. And all appear to have been refinished - even some batons are poorly placed and some are clearly non-Rolex. You really need to establish the facts with the seller.

Ask yourself how unusual it is that he "happens" to have 3 DJs and 1 Date all with "unique and rare burgundy dial". Even though they come from some anonymous collector, it is hard to believe....

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking, I'm confident enough to know I need to avoid that seller, I was just hopeful that they were copying something that did exist

Boooo, shame as I'd snap one up if they did them, thanks for the confirmation

They of course did make an oxblood Stella dial for DD's but never saw burgundy dial on a DJ. Clearly these dials aren't rare and are refinished as noted in posts above.

Not that I have ever seen. But I wouldn't rule it out just because it is a re-dial.
Lots of custom dials out there for both the DD and DJ.
