Coming down to the wire

I have a sub 14060m bought new nov 2011 by me. Since day one it has run 6 seconds fast in 24 hours. No matter what I do it's 6 seconds from the first full wind to to the last tick it's the same. I'm torn on what I want to do. Send it in to get slowed down under warranty, or leave it alone, and keep it factory shut. Some days it bothers me not being more accurate, and some days what's 6 seconds matter. I worry sending out the watch to Rolex for a minor detail only to get back with a bigger issue that sometimes happens with Rolex . My other rolex is a DD that was my dads before he passed. What's your take ? Thanks

I personally wouldn't mess with it. I would wait until the first service is due, and then send it down to Rik Dietel. It will come back from him much more accurate. Can't promise the same thing from RSC. It might come back more accurate but with new scratches

I'd never notice 6 seconds but that's probably because I wear several different watches per week...or, I just wouldn't notice.

But, if it truly bothers you and it's covered by warranty (sounds like it is), send it in. Rolex would be opening it up, so I don't think you should be concerned about other problems cropping up upon return...

I wouldn't worry about 6 seconds out of 24 hours.

The good news is it's consistent. Should be an easy adjustment by RSC. Personally, I would send it in and ask for it to be regulated while it Is still under warranty. I understand there is always a risk for something to happen when it is opened, but I would take the chance. Besides, any potential issues that arise could be addressed under the warranty again. IMHO, it's best to have the watch as close to perfect before the warranty expires. Good luck and enjoy the Sub!

Nothing to be torn about and lose sleep over it
The watch is under a two year Rolex warranty
and obviously 6 seconds is too fast.

You do what is the correct thing to do... send to RSC/NYC
it will come back "factory shut" (I like this new expression)
without a bigger issue.

Thanks for your views. Just to be clear 6 sec fast is the average I get in one month. If I break it down to each day it might be 7 one day, 5 the other day. If i get it adjusted I would take it under warranty. I wear it 24/7 for a month then go for the DD for one month. The sub is near perfect condition wise thus the concern Rolex will mess it up.

Average of 6 seconds in a day is negligible actually unless you live the day by the seconds. I for one won't notice it.

And if you wear several watches in rotation it shouldn't be that critical in terms of "fast" time.

Me I wouldn't notice 6 seconds, but you obviously do, that being the case have it corrected.

Id leave it as is and set it a minute behind and reset/wind it once a week-10 days.

I've gotten my Explorer and DJ regulated under warranty by my AD's watchmaker and some time before my warranty runs out in December I'll have my Sub regulated under warranty.

I live about a mile from my AD and the watchmaker will keep the watch for a day or two and all is well.

Also, my watchmaker won't touch a watch that is running within +5/-3, but once it exceeds that he'll do the regulation.

So far all my Rolex watches have run fast, so when they reach +5 they go in for a regulation.

Maybe the watchmaker is kidding, but he says Rolex's standard is higher than COSC's.

Your torn what to do myself would leave it well alone consistency is the most important thing in any watch.Have you ever given your watch a full manual wind 40 full crown turns clockwise.And even if you get the back off for say 4 seconds regulation out of 86400 seconds in a day.Now after said regulation on a machine,the watch will not always perform exactly the same on the wrist, and at the moment your watch is 99.994% accurate.And wearing 24/7 could be your problem let the watch rest off wrist at night try different resting positions could lose a second or so over night try below before you get the back off.

I couldn't live with it...indeed I didn't and recently sent mine to Rik here to be regulated and pressure tested. It consistent so no problems just have it regulated.
