The perfect three watch collection

Am I mad. I'm making a few watch flipping decisions in search of the perfect three watch collection, my current collection is pictured below. I intend keeping the Explorer 1 but am flipping my DSSD and my Daytona s/s for a Sub date 116610LN and cash. I intend saving some extra to put with the cash and then purchasing the Daytona Rose Gold, chocolate dial with leather strap, 116515 LN I believe.
To me I think I will then have a collection that covers all bases, is really versatile and hopefully will stop me developing any more expensive urges to buy, what do you all think.......

Sorry Jason, not trying to hijack but since you kind of are asking I was putting together a top three for myself just last week and for right now I think this is my top three. Just spit ballin' here, cause it is subjective and I'm fickle so this is going to change but this week my three would be a YMII SS, VC Overseas Chronograph RG, and a Philippe Dufour's Simplicity. Add an Omega Bumble-Bee when it comes out as my daily-wearer.

Do it and call it a day. Retire from these forums. Otherwise, you'll probably struggle daily with "just one more" syndrome.

I bet that most of us, even if we could have 20 watches of our choosing, we would still covet more.

I was thinking "Hey - that's me - I have the perfect threesome."
But of course I actually wear my Casio to do all the dirty or potentially damaging jobs.
So - if it's just 3 watches then I agree with the Dr.

My suggestion is, move on from watches you don't love and or wear a lot... Or if you want to explore something new go for it, becoming a watch hoarder/collector sometimes sucks, you really don't get to spend any real intimate time with one piece

Perfect 3 watch?

A chronograph (Omega Speedmaster or Breitling Navtimer)
A sport watch (Rolex Sub Date or GMT)
A dress watch (Cartier Tank, Rolex DJ, JLC Reverso, most anything by Lang or Patek)

The perfect pounder? My TAG 1500 quartz (now the Aquaracer)

The perfect two watch? Daytona and a DJ.

One watch to rule them all, from dress to sport? Easy, Rolex GMT. Mix and match the bezels (Pepsi, Coke, or solid black) and the bracelets (from Oyster to Jubilee to a strap).

I really appreciate all the above comments. So much variation shows we are all individuals. I would stay away from the forum if I could and the constant temptation it throws my way, but I can't I'm addicted to it!!!!!
Went into watch collecting with my eyes opened and need to accept that this is one expensive habit........but sooooo worth it!!,

The hobby doesn't have to be exorbitant. There're so many interesting pieces that can be had for relatively little. It's all about what you make of it.

I agree Mike...all these can be got for under $10k total if used vintage ones are sought.

I know many have large collections - nothing wrong with that.

I happen to agree that three is a good number to have in rotation. Currently mine are SubC, Patek 5167, and a Rolex 1625. I'm sure the watches in my trio will change over time, as they have in the past.

Well, first of all, you are keeping the right one - the Explorer 1 :-)

The DSSD is a fun piece, not sure it is a true keeper for life (I don't see myself being 65 lugging around a Deepsea on the wrist...). I'm not sure about a RG Daytona though, I'd put that money towards some vintage gold, like this one



or go with something like an AP in rose gold

Patrick, that AP is beautiful!!!! There is something about Rose Gold that is singing to me at the moment. I've decided to stall on a purchase for a couple of months to be certain it is more than just a minor itch.

This arrived this morning though, however much I loved my DSSD it was a big watch and didn't sit on my wrist as well as this, so I'm very happy......

Done it. Pulled the trigger and i await delivery of my 116515LN, tried it on recently and it sang sang sang!!!!!!!!!

Here are my current three favorites. BLNR because she is beautiful and new. The Hamilton as I wore it through the last part of my military career, jumping out of planes and deployment to Afghanistan. And the Timex for yard work and the gym. The BLNR gets all the rest of the wrist time.
