Interesting..
Looks like Omega has a marketing scheme or two up their sleeves to rival anything Rolex has done..

And they use a picture of Sumo when talking mostly about China.
Lots of watch branding during the Olympics. Great time to be into watches!

Looks like Omega is expanding it's horizons rapidly in emerging markets. I didn't realize that Rolex had cancelled some of it's building projects--any word on this? I assume they cancelled it because of economic considerations.

I don't think Rolex cancelled the projects. I think the word "terminated" is meant to be used as completed in the context of the article.

The Hayek's have done a great job with Swatch. Surpassing Rolex in a few years or even longer is a tall order. And remember, higher sales numbers does not necessarily translate into higher profile or status.

She belongs to Enrique. So if one has a growth on one's face it pays to have it cut off. Then Anna may sit between your legs too.
Or you can swim nude across Biscayne Bay to visit Anna. Then at your trial you can call her as a whitness. Quote:

I wonder how they measure sales. I can't imagine they calculate all the data on the prices actually paid at retail, or on which watches sold to ADs are sold and which sit in cases or safes. I wonder if the 2.2 billion Euro is Rolex's revenues, or if it is the retail price of the watches they ship each year.
If they calculate by the retail price of the watches they ship, then Omega would be at an advantage in meeting that goal on paper, since Omega watches are heavily discounted, and Omega would be chalking up a $4000 sale every time someone pays $2500 for a Planet Ocean. |

I don't understand!! Whilst I do comprehend the Darwinian ethos of the commercial world (survival of the largest/fittest and all that), it seems a pity to me that Rolex even feels the need to compete with Swatch - Rolex could just aim to be the makers of the most exclusive and the best watches, rather than the seller of the biggest number of watches. Does Bentley compete with Nissan? Or do Swatch own the rights to a number of other exclusive brands?
Sorry if I've missed the point somewhere here - can somebody enlighten me, please? (Incidentally, that original link was June 2006 - what has developed since then?) Stan. |

I think Omega will be on equal terms with Rolex when the day comes that you can't walk into an AD and expect a substantial discount on a Seamaster. Until then, sorry Omega, but Rolex is king.

Still the same sticking point with me. Omega's service is poor. It has taken 14 weeks to get a regulation and service of a two year old GMT Seamaster. Apparently this is routine. I have not yet needed Rolex RCS but I haven't read of any of you having a similar problem with their service.

. Breguet, Blancpain and Glashütte-Original hold strong positions at the very top end . Léon Hatot, Jaquet-Droz, Omega, Longines, Rado and Union hold key positions in the luxury market . Tissot, ck Calvin Klein, Certina, Mido, Hamilton and Pierre Balmain maintain a strong presence in the mid-range ..Swatch and Flik Flak hold a substantial share of the broad consumer segment . Endura produces private-label watches Until they merged with the SMH Company (Longines/Rado) in 1985 and two Swiss Giants formed the Swatch Group, The Omega/Tissot parent group, SSIH, also included Lemania (Lemania movements are still used in Speedys), Rayville, Lanco, Cortebert, Marc Favre and Hamilton.

If we're giving Anna a hard time then...can we make a joke about "balls with fuzz on them"?

Omega know this and as they improve their marketing they will crank up their prices. We are already seeing it with the co-axle. Today an Omega is a really great deal; maybe not so in a few years.

Well, Omega seems to be the rockstar brand nowadays endorsed by the likes of Craig and Kornikova. These watches reflect the younger set. Stuff like that--just like 1980s big hair/mullets--get old pretty quick.

I'm thinking Omega has been around way too long to qualify as a fad. For the most part the styling is solid and the watches are high quality. They're not going to go the way of the mullet, IMO.

Sure, Speedy Pro and various vintages: Seamaster 300m, Constellation. Classic, perennial. Now the "Anakin" and "Darth Vader" Seamasters. Collectors like them I guess. Not my taste. Looks like something Mike Brady would design. |

The more watches Omega produce will only force them into heavily discounting their product through the AD's.
There are only so many people who will buy the product so they will have to not only market aggressively, but also discount accordingly. This will have the effect of pushing down residual values, so people will eventually see them as over priced trinkets. (Not my opinion on their watches) Will Rolex really be concerned. I doubt it. And another thing, the more Omegas we see the less likely it is that we shall see another Rolex, so this will only add to the exclusivety of the Rolex brand.
