See what happen? Scores of copycat brands use Rolex designs, not to mention known brands like Seiko. It's not illegal, and the newspaper ad in the picture is just a sales come-on.

Wow, that's a good deal. There's more than $99 of gold in that watch.

All I can say is a bought a lot of watches at an estate sale for almost nothing. I was gambling on what was in there. I came up with a bust. Including a Stauer. That Stauer is a pos. It's a YG Daytona/pearl dial knock off. Everything about it feels cheap. Not worth what was paid for it. Needless to say, Stauer does nothing for me.
Don't get me wrong, I like quality inexpensive watches too. Give me a Seiko 5 or Orient all day long over that crap from Stauer. At least there was a decent Citizen Eco Drive in that lot that my dad liked. |

It might have happened, but not for the reasons cited.
I'm sure the Swiss would rather that the Swiss name be reserved for quality timepieces, so when some nut produces a Swiss watch that is obviously, even in the advertisement, pure junk, some might have become a bit annoyed.

You gotta love Stauer's marketing, cheesy and hokey but they sure are funny. I especially like the ad in flight magazines that talk about the guy getting out of a exotic sportscar and giving the Stauer guy "the look" because he thought they had the same expensive watch......

Well, whatever "the case", you have to give them credit for original design!

Pure marketing, if such a thing did happen I'd sure that we's have heard about it, as far as the "Swiss made" Stauer... if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... (insert your favorive word for duck )...
