How to adjust date on Oyster Perpetual Date

Hi folks:

I am new here. Was given an old Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date that used to belong to my Dad.

I am having problems adjusting the date. I have been searching this site but this watch does not seem to have any quickset.

Does it mean that the only way I can change the date is to slowly move the hour hands - 24 cycles moves 1 date X number of days date is behind. If not how do I adjust the date.

When I pull out the crown the first stop is for manual winding (I assume) and the second hand still moves. If I pull it another stop, the second hand stops and I can adjust the time. Is there a third stop for the date?

Also any info on this particular watch is appreciated.

I plan to wear it for a week or two to see if it runs fast or slow. I figure that I can let the service center know if it runs fast or slow and by how much and maybe they can make a better adjustment.

Thanks

BTW forgot to post the picture:

Now you know why Rolex now have the quickset movement.
The only way to adjust the date on your Rolex is to wind it forward until the date is correct.
If you have the first 3 numbers of the serial number and the model (this info is between the lugs at six and twelve) we can identify the Year of Manufacture etc.

Trick for adjusting date on Non-QS

My watchmaker showed me a trick on Friday regarding adjusting the non-QS date. Move the hands forward normally past midnight until the date clicks over. Then move the hands backward to around 7 - 6:30pm where the pin(technical term) will pick up the date wheel again. Then move hands forward again past midnight click past one more day. Simply repeat until you get where you need to be. You are only moving the hand 5-6 hours rather than the full 24 to change the date.

Thanks for the tip on adjusting the date, I will give it a try. It should be ok for the watch to shift the date this way?

Also the production date is 1978

Wow all this time with my OD and I never knew that trick.

My servicer told me not to wind the oldie back as it may damage the movement and parts are becoming scarce.

Guess I'm stuck with the 24 hr date set!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip.

It worked on my Omega Constellation as well. Back to 8-9 o'clock and then forward.
