I think my grandpa's Rolex is a fake.
I cannot see any serial numbers between the lugs. In the dial, the word ROLEX is just below the 12 o'clock position under a symbol that looks like a crown.
My grandfather was presented this watch when he retired from Wetterau Incorporated. On the back it is engraved with his name, and then the following: In appreciation of 40 years of loyal service. Wetterau Incorporated I'm guessing he retired about 1986 because he was discharged from the Army in 1945. Note: the watch face does not have numerals, just lines where normally there would be numbers. Help please? Thanks |

Sorry, nobody can help you with such a sketchy description.
Why do you think that your grandpa would have been given a fake watch for his retirement.. ??

You would only see this serial on older models if you were to take the band off. Sounds like you need someone else to help you judge it's authenticity, bring it to an authorized dealer, or better yet POST SOME PICS! theyll tell ya in no time.

Obviously we need a good quality, clear photo of the dial to help you authenticate your Pa's watch my friend.

Thank you all very much. I guess the only thing that set off alarms in my head that it was a fake is, the fact that there isn't a serial number between the lugs at the twelve o'clock location.
Also it does not have a month/day on the face. It's just a plain face. it looks just like this one, only no date/month and mine is a "gold" color. |

The old style end links will cause wear in the area where the serial number & model number is located....I have seen this on several vintage watches. Use a loupe or magnifying glass and see if you can detect anything. I have also rubbed a pencil across the area where the numbers are to help try to identify worn numbers.

English is not my natural language, but it seems that OP wanted to evaluate when his Grandfather retired from Wettereau. As he was decharged from army in 1945, and Watch was given to him 40 years after that, OP thinks it was in 1986 ... . |

The bracelet was broken when he passed away. He wore it every day until he died in 1990. It has been sitting in my desk drawer ever since. And yes, he retired from Wetterau right around 1986.
The Army reference was to correlate the time he was discharged, upon which he became employed with Wetterau and worked there for 40 years as a Printer/Pressman. As for not posting photos of the watch, I am 60 years old and just now learning to find my way around the internet. I wish I were a 20 year old, because then I would know how to take a picture and put it on here. Unfortunately I don't know how. Sorry. The photo I posted from a website is exactly like my grandpa's except it is not silver, it is a gold'ish color. My apologies for not being computer savvy. Perhaps I should look elsewhere or toss it back into the drawer and forget about it. Thanks to all who tried to help. |

Maybe grandpa faked ever having the job and had the fake Rolex engraved as part of the ruse? OP, do you have a pic of grandpa at work?

I'd treasure any watch that my grandfather wore, regardless of the name on the dial.

I came here expecting more professionalism at this website. Instead, I get snide remarks. If this is the attitude of the typical Rolex owner, then count me out. Sorry I wasted your precious Rolex time! Again, thanks to those who tried to help. |

Many wanted pics to help....if you are unable to post, then bring it to a Rolex dealer and ask for a service estimate. If it's real you will find out and get a specific price to get it up to speed. Good luck.

Are there any Authorized Rolex Dealers in your area? You can find these on the Rolex website.
One trip in there, and they can tell you if it's real or not. |
