Icon20 Baja Haha Sailing Regatta...

For all you sailors all over the world, he are some pictures from the 14 day sailing regatta from San Diego, California to Cabo, Mexico that I sailed in last November. We sailed "IN CAHOOTS," my father in law's new Beneteau 49. There were 171 boats in the race with over 450 people! On our sailboat there was 6 of us; my wife and I, her parents and her aunt and uncle. We stopped only twice along the way. First in Turtle Bay Mexico and then Bahia Santa Maria. Each for 2 days were we partied and hung out. Then finally we end up in Cabo where we stayed docked for 5 days. There was a lot of DARK nights and long hours on shift. We rotated sailling shifts every 3 hours in pairs of two.

My wife and I and her aunt and uncle flew home after Cabo, but my in laws explorered La Paz and finally docked the boat in Nueva Puerta after a few weeks. We have flown back a few times for short weekend trips... sometimes you just don't want to come back.....

Great shots,Greg. A Beneteau 49 is the way to do it in style! Looks like you had a blast in port, too. How was the weather and winds? Looks like you close to dead downwind in a couple of shots.

I thought you would enjoy this thread...

We went wing on wing a few times during the day. We kept it pretty calm on the night watches. At the start of the race in SD I almost went over board holding the spiniker shoot down. WAY to much wind! We had winds over 20 knots at the first leg of the race, but as the water temp became warmer the winds mellowed down. A great trip that no one wants to do again any time soon! I was a hell of a work out, but relaxing in Mexico was a hoot!

Here is a shot of the instruments as we were trying to anchor in Turtle Bay and some pictures of us wetting the line...

I know the feeling, I say the same thing every time I crawl off a boat after an overnighter!

I didn't wear my Rolex on the trip, everyone originally purchased a Zodiac divers watch it different colors. But my dial was discolored so I returned it and purchased a Nautica Box set watch. It came with 3 straps; a orange rubber strap, a black leather/rubber strap, and a silver woven rubber strap. The watch is a great value for $175. It has a AR crystal, screw down crown and has a 200m rating. But the best thing of all is that the lumes are Awesome. We had alot of night watches, and a quick flashlight over the case would light up the dial for at least 3 hours!!! And then my shift was over...zzz zzz zzz.

But I do agree with you, I need a "yachtmaster"

Great pics--that sounds like a sweet trip, although I can't believe y'all got three ladies to live on the boat for two weeks.

I just booked my 4th of July trip to Cabo, and my annual august trip with the boys will be booked soon enough. What a great place. So...

Where's the obligatory finish line land's end shot?
Did you eat that bonito? (Hope not...)

We know better than to eat Bonitas! They are fun to reel in, and then release. While we were down in Cabo there hosted the Western Outdoor News Tuna Jackpot Tournament. I saw tuna that wear over 6 feet long! Amazing!!!!

Oooohhh.... I'm getting fired up about Cabo. I've been there five times, and now it's an annual trip with my buddies. I even managed to make the 2007 trip while on leave from Iraq. Going twice in 08: couples trip over the 4th of July and the boys trip in August. We're about to book our villa for the 4th...makes me despize this cold a$$ desert even more. Sorry, didn't mean to not really curse. Just Iraq is soooo bad, and Cabo is soooo good.

Next time I'll get a Sub shot while holding a big dorado or tuna.

Did you go to the AD there? (Ultrajewels/Ultrafemme I think) I'm in the market for a polar Expy--maybe I'll snag one in Cabo. That would be a watch to be loved.
