The calm after the storm - golden sunset

It was a beautiful sunset straight after a big storm - perfect for highlighting the golden colours of my GMT and Laphroig single malt...

Nothing like a dose of Laphroaig to make time gazing even more pleasant.

Great pictures!

Thanks for all the comments folks.

Even though I sold a modern Patek to fund the purchase of the GMT I don't regret it for a second. It's seen more wrist time in the few weeks I've owned it than my 5296R saw in the entire three years I had it.

It does generate a lot of comments however - certainly not an "under the radar" piece so you have to think about it before you strap it on. Very ostentatious - but that was part of the appeal of solid gold. I believe it really does the excellent movement justice - no point drinking champagne from a plastic cup!

Believe it or not I'm a movement guy and I feel the Rolex movement while lacking the finishing of some of their competitors does an amazing job at chronometry. The non-magnetic hairspring allows an overcoil helping to reduce positional variation, something that silicon hairsprings cannot. The proof is in the pudding and it is exceptionally accurate.
