Anyone sign up for Global-Entry yet?

I took advantage of the Amex credit for global-entry and signed up for the program, which also gets me TSA Pre-check. I haven't used it yet. Has anyone else done it, and how is the experience?

I've gone through Pre-Check a few times even though I'm not enrolled in it. The TSA agents just bump me over to the other line for some reason.

Anyway, it's not spectacular as far as going through the X-Ray and scanner. The only real time savings is not having to take off your shoes or remove your laptop from the bag. I still remove my jacket even though the agent keeps insisting I leave it on, and I keep insisting that I keep all my items in my jacket pocket for speed.

I think the real time savings if I were actually in Global Entry + Pre-Check is being able to bypass the initial line (at least at my local airport) that exists before going up the first escalator to get to the terminal level.

I'm most likely going to enroll in Global Entry, anyway. I just need to find the time to go to the airport where they do the interview.

I was in and out of the interview quickly. It was, "have you ever been convicted of a felony?, "have you ever been arrested?", and "smile for the camera".

Yes and yes.

If you travel a lot, Pre-Check saves a lot of time and hassle. Global Entry obviously only makes sense if you international trips, it certainly makes re-entry quick though!

I did sign up . . . and when all was paid and done . . . they told me that Belgium is not in the group of countries that are allowed to use it

Did global entry about 4 months ago--best thing I've done for travel. Domestic, cut the line with pre-check. On international travel, no paperwork, and straight to the kiosk (no hour wait in Immigration lines). Love this thing--great ida and it works.

I'm about an hour and fifteen drive to Los Angeles International which is the nearest place that will do the Global Entry interview. The drive is the only thing I have to make time for.

Yes, my wife and I have joined, and TSA Pre-Check has been great for domestic flights in and out of Minneapolis. Haven't used the Global Entry program as yet. Instead of up to a 30 minute wait to clear domestic security, our experience has been walk right up to the Pre-Check queue and immediately go through screening. No waiting.

It must be popular..people were flying into Minneapolis from Chicago just to get the interview done and establish their status. Apparently, some cities have long wait for scheduling TSA interviews.

I should also add that domestic airports adding TSA Pre-Check lines are quickly increasing in number, making it a more valuable credential to have.

Yes, I hope the extend the renew dates a little longer. Another money making scam by our government. Should be 10 years like the passport is

They do a complete back ground prior to your interview. They are just checking out what watch your wearing for the interview. I was born in Tripoli and they didn't ask me anything.

Now prior to my Global Entry Card I was locked up in MIA waiting fur the FBI to interrogate me coming back from Brasil. WHY !!

I'm on Global Entry - works great, not only for immigration part but also customs. One caveat - it is not accepted at every airport. It also allows to apply for TSA-Pre, but that is awarded on a flight-by-flight basis.

I use Global Entry a few times a month.

I won't hesitate to renew. Not every airport has the kiosk, but you get a sticker on your passport that gives you front of the line privileges at airports without it.

"Each enrollment center was directed to issue it's supply of GE stickers until that supply was depleted. Those supplies will not be replenished because CBP will no longer be issuing the stickers."

If true, that explains why I didn't get one. My card was issued January 2013

It works great. Traveled over Thanksgiving. Went through the lines and past the screening in under 2 minutes at both SEA and SFO.

That is a serious time saver especially when traveling during busy times. I definitely need to look into this. I have been procrastinating but definitely need to get this done.

Of course your fingerprints goes into a national database and all that, but in my case govt already had them due to other clearances/permits, so this was all upside to me. And when Amex offered to pay for it?! Done deal.

Another nod for Global Entry... having that has allowed me to avoid some pretty long lines upon US entry during those "peak" travel hours. Added perk is TSA PreCheck (I for one like not having to deal with liquids, laptop, shoes, etc), though I think you can get that now through specific airlines anyhow.

I've got Global Entry and Pre-check, both are great... Global Entry I never have any problems, and after a long flight I love not having to stand in line...

Pre-Check has been giving me problems lately.. I get 'randomized' out about 1/2 of my flights, and lately at ORD, the pre-check line is 50x longer than normal 1st class, so of little to no benefit.. I don't want to wait for 20min longer so not to take my shoes off... I think they may just need more lines, only one in Terminal 3...

Global Entry with pre check is awesome! I'm usually through security before the person who dropped me at the airport is off LAX's property.

My wife and I have had Global Entry for about 18 months (courtesy of AMEX). I love it. The problem is my wife has no scannable fingerprints. So they just send her to the first immigration officer (she bumps the line) and gets through almost as fast as me. Pre-Check is an added bene. We use it on United and USAir (which we fly 95% of the time) and we go right through with no hassle. But this is mainly at DCA and IAD.

Yes, Grady, exactly. $85 and background check buys you 5 years of convenience. Caveat--they can randomly decide to put you in the regular lines. When you print your boarding pass, that will tell you your status for the flight. If "TSA Pre-Check" is printed, you are able to access the speedier lines.

Net is, you are still subject to carry on restrictions. But you simply throw your carry on onto the belt, run through scan, and that's it. No shoe, belt, pockets, metal removal and no removal of electronics or liquids from your bag.

And the fundamental point is, the lines for TSA Pre-Check are usually short and quick.

10 year passports would indeed be great. They used to be 10 year in the EU, but when we changed to the biometric passports they became 5 year.

It's not about the money, or wait. You get a passport under 5 days and it's about 50-60 euros. But I still need to drag myself to a photographer and the police twice...

Global entry really doesn't make much of a sense IMHO... The lines at US airports for Americans is usually quite short compared to the international travelers line. Although last week in JFK I only waited for 10-15min! Usually it's 1 hour and 15minutes!

Very few "foreigners" can benefit from "Global Entry". The TSA pre-check seems like a reasonable thing though as we're all treated the same at the security checkpoint.

"Q: Can I join Global Entry if I am not a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident?
A: Global Entry is also available to citizens of the Netherlands who are enrolled in Privium and Korean Smart Entry Service members. Citizens of Mexico may also apply for Global Entry. Canadian NEXUS members have Global Entry benefits, but are not eligible to join."

Yes I did. The lines for US citizens at Houston intercontinental are ridiculous.

FYI Amex paid my fee for GE, not sure if they still do...
