So, I picked up my DJ from its first service in many, many years.
It had been about 17 years or so since it's last service. Yes, I know. I'm now planning on having it serviced regularly. Well, anyway, before I took it in, it was running probably about 4-5 minutes fast every month, which works out to about 8-9 second a day, I think. The date was also changing 10 minutes early. This has been consistent for the past couple of years without much, if any variance. I always knew it was 11:50 when I heard by watch change dates.
I was pretty nervous that I'd get a call saying that parts needed to be replaced and that the service cost of $395 would turn into much more. Luckily that didn't happen. The watch looks great, but boy, it sure does feel very different. For the past month, I've been wearing my new GMT-IIc. Going from that to the DJ is a huge change. My DJ is SS so there's a huge weight difference. It's like I'm not wearing anything on my wrist. The 36 mm face is the better size for my small wrists, but it sure does look tiny. I think I might have a lot of trouble moving back and forth between these two watches. It also feels a lot flimsier than the GMT-IIc. It's been a strange night. |

I think its pretty normal for your DJ to feel and wear differently since you have been wearing the GMT for a while and haven't worn the DJ over some time.
Hope the DJ has been running better and more accurate since the service.

Also, I can see why certain people, who have larger wrists, don't like the smaller size of the DJ. |

I am glad to hear your DJ went through service so smoothly!
Maybe you could post a pic of it?? Anyway, I have considered getting the Blancpain "Fifty Fathoms" (45,5 MM watch!!) and a DJ with a silver dial. But I have had the same doubts if the difference in size would be too big. But then again, it would certainly be a change you feel.

After getting my 16710 and wearing it for two weeks I experienced the same thing. I was even considering flipping the DJ for a Platinum YM. It was suggested here that I wear the DJ for a few days and see. I did, and I am really happy I didn't do anything rash. The two watches really compliment each other I think. Two totally different pieces visually but both excellent watches. I say wear the DJ exclusively for a few days and then see how you feel.

Same thing with me when I switch from my Explorer II to my Tudor Prince date.
It`s a HUGE weight difference between these two.But I don`t mind!Actually,I wear my Tudor as a dress watch(it`s actually very similar to DJ,mine have white gold bezel)while my Exp II is perfect for everyday use. You have a wonderful pair, you should post some pics. |

I'll try to get some pictures of it over the weekend. I don't have any "collection" pictures, so I'll get my two and my wife's in a picture. Actually, my brother takes really good pictures, so maybe I'll have him do it for me! Quote:
Yeah, I looked at a YM yesterday. It's a great watch. I'm trying to decide whether to get my dad the YM or a TT DJ (silver dial). For me, there's no way I'd get rid of my DJ. My dad got it as a wedding gift from my grandfather so there's a lot of history and sentimental value attached to it. I've got it on right now, and I'm already used to it again. |
