Hello all -

I am simply wanting some of your expert options of who to go to for an alligator strap in black.

Thanks!

There are hundred possible thousands of outlets that sell straps some charge crazy prices for them and no better quality the the ones from say Hirsch.

Hadley-Roma and JP Leatherworks both make good straps at reasonable prices.

For vintage, I also like the straps from Jed at thetimetraveler.com.

I have question along the same lines. What's the difference in quality between genuine alligator leather and alligator grained calf leather?
I mean is it worth the extra $$?

The better, mass produced straps are clearly nicer in genuine gator or croc, but they run from $150 to $330. For well under $100 you can find nice croc straps and a few gators, but they tend not to have the same quality hides or colors.

If you just want the gator look in a dark color, the embossed straps can be fine. I would expect to pay $30 to $50 for the embossed leather versions. If you get much cheaper, you'll probably get poorly done embossing on low quality leather-- a double whammy of crappy product.

Agree 100% - plus the fact that the Hirsch VISCOUNT Waterproof Alligator is best performer for all the conditions you'll encounter.

On the whole "who's best" in strapworld - the thing to consider is the quality of the lining underneath. While the top part pleases the eye, a poor job underneath can irritate you more than "looks".

Check out Camille Fournet (http://www.camillefournet.com/). Completely customizable and regarding their quality, know that they are the manufacturer of JLC's leather straps.
