Turn-O-Graph or Yatch Master??
Hi guys, I'm choosing between SS/WG Turn-O-Graph (jubilee) and Yatch-Master Platinum. Can you please help me decide (I'm new to Rolex).
Initially I wanted the Turn-O-Graph, to alternate with my SS/YG Submariner (black dial). I'd been quite single-minded until I saw the Yatch-Master. Here is my dilemma; 1) I plan to hand down the Rolex to my two sons. Since I already have the Submariner, I want the new Rolex that would have similar value (sentimental & economic) in the future. 2) And while I'm waiting for my sons to be old enough , I'd like to have a watch that gives me different look and feel. I wish I could buy them both, but wife disapproved. Given my situation, what would you choose? or would you recommend something else? |

First of all Welcome toTRF!
I would choose YM without a doubt. The only reason for buying TOG instead of itcould be similarity between Sub and YM.But,that platinum looks really great and very different than good ol` black Sub. Altought I really like TOG,I think that those two models cannot be comparable, because of MUCH higher class and feeling of exclusivity and quality that platinum YM provides. So,my vote goes for YM! |

TOG's are great due to their versatility, they can be worn comfortably on any occasion.
I prefer the black dial TOG. The only thing going against the TOG is the 36mm case. You will notice it smaller than the Sub. The YM is a watch with some great qualities too. It really comes down to your own personal tastes and preferences.

I have been waiting to get a turn-o-graph, with white dial, red sweep hand and red date markers for quite some time now. Would talke it over the YM in a minute, platinum or no...actually, the platinum look on that watch is not my 'cup of tea'(with apologies to JJ).

Welcome to TRF!
I suggest you try on both (one at a time, that is!) and compare them on your wrist. Then go for the one that appeals most to you. Good luck!

I guess since I purchased a Platinum YM as my first Rolex I'm biased and would suggest the YM; to me it is just a wonderful looking watch. The YM has just enough "bling" to attract attention, but not so much as to be gaudy. I'm waiting to see when the thrill of putting it on wears off; I hope it never does.

I echo Steve's (Lolx) sentiments. I would be wearing a TOG (black face) if it was bigger, but the 36 mm didn't do it for me. If it's right for you, get it. The platinum YM is wonderful as well, but I'm not drawn to it like some others.
Bottom line, Bo's advice (as usual) is top notch. Buy what smiles at you. It'll smile at your sons too, by virtue of it being yours. Trust me, I know. |

If size is not an issue with you or your wrists, then go with the one which YOU really like.
However, at 40 mm, the YM is a much better looking watch. JJ

I say go for the beautiful SS/Platinum Yacht Master. The TOG is one Rolex that does nothing for me, and next to the YM it's downright homely, IMO.

Much as I like the TOG, the Yachty is an absolute cracker in real life.

Try to see which one appeals the most to you cause in the end you are the one who is going to wear it. If i were you though i would go for the Yachtmaster

Thanks y'all for valuable inputs. I did try them both. I guess it was the YM that has a better smile , otherwise I would have already pulled the trigger on the TOG. Perhaps I felt bad about spending more on the YM, and tried to find a logical justification.
I think I know which one I'm going to get. I'll go back to the AD this weekend. If my wife asks for the justification, I'll tell her to read this tread Thanks again |

YM because of its size and cachet. Gotta love that red seconds hand against the platinum dial!

Despite the incredible Platty, since I alreday have a sport model, I would probably go with the TOG. My favorites include the blue and black dials, they really make the seconds hand shout! Plus, they can be had with an oyster or a jubilee bracelet.
However, like JJ, I prefer 40mm in a watch. That will be a factor at the end of the day, too. Its a hard choice, but a great one to make!
