Not bad. We do not have heating bills, no winter clothing to purchase. I heard heating bills can cost a fortune in some parts of the country. Also we do not have AC bills in the summer as well.

The wood fire place does not cost anything, no need for AC here. Substance hunting helps keep the food bill way down, the dry cabin saves money with no real utilities and the view of Alaska is free.

The past few weeks have been brutal. Lows at night of -20 to -30 F and highs in the teens below zero. This coming weekend, the lows will range from -25 to -40. I'm trying to think of a good reason to live here right now but coming up blank.

Blizzard warning tonight. 40 mph winds and snow. Then temps are set to drop into the -30s with wind chills in the -50s. Kind of limits the options for outdoor activities.

As brutal as this is going to get for a few days here in MN, I really don't mind. While this is as cold as it has been for last 15 years or so, the point is, it's expected this time of year.

What bothers me is when we get unseasonably cold weather in fall or spring, impacting activities. You expect this sort of thing in January. No big deal.

I was in in LA over the holidays, and loved it. But I would not like it when it gets to 120 degrees in the valley at the height of summer.

I agree, Daniel. I see that Governor Dayton has already closed schools next Monday due to the cold. It seems they close schools now on rumors alone.

Meanwhile, I took this photo out my dining room window of race officials setting up the race course for tomorrow's 200 mile USCX snowmobile race. I plan to go out onto the ice with my camera for awhile. I wonder what the wind chill is when it's -30 F and you're traveling 130 mph?
