Reactions to your Rolex

I was just curious what are the reactions that people give you when they notice your watch?

For me, most people say "Oh, that's a nice watch." And some others say "What type is that?"

But what do people say to you when they see yours? (Most people don't even notice it, or if they do, they don't say anything about it.)

Very few people actually notice. But when they do it is usually "you must be loaded". I just laugh it off.

Yep, it's just a watch (TT Sub and SS Sub). I'm not expecting or wanting a lot of attention. I also interact with a lot of people that have them, so they are no big deal.

Rarely does anyone comment on my Rolex watches. However, last week a guy wearing a SD yelled "a GMT!" when he saw mine. Then included how much he like the jubilee bracelet. Always great to run across another WIS to talk watches.

An odd story.

I'm in Jos A Bank around december picking up some suits that came in, when a homeless guy walks in and starts asking the sales people if they had any clothes that they were going to disgarded. He looks at me and asks me "is that a new Rolex Sub you have there"? While acknowledging the guy I could see all the sales people looking at each other thinking "whats the story behind that guy"?

Usually folks will just ask me if I have the time, whether I'm wearing a rolex or not

I notice men sneaking a peak all the time, as soon as the see me notice them, they look away. I think it's the kind of thing that they know what it is, but acknowleding it is awkward for people who feel intimidated by them?

One of the few times anyone ever noticed my watch was in Vegas at the bit "T".

The sales girl looked at my watch--a particularly nice vintage if I do say so--and said "Are you ready to get rid of that old thing and get a new watch"?

A friend of mine heard from another that I was wearing one and kindly requested to see it. He handled it in amazement, really in awe of it. Said he never thought he'd see one. That's the nicest reaction of 3 so far...

My Rolex watches have only been commented on very few times.

Funny thing is that when I state it's a Rolex, everyone would recognize the brand name.

Had I been wearing a Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, JlC, IWC or Blancpain for instance, I might also have had comments on them, but my guess is that most non WIS would not know these brands.

That's true Bo

99.9% of the world population know the brand rolex but only 0.01% know what rolex watches look like

Rolex = marketing GOD

Wearing a watch vs not wearing a watch is like having hair or being bald. The difference is that distinct. I mean you will be noticed for wearing one and for not wearing one because that's the nature of our hands and arm is. Our hands are used so frequently in so many things that you just can't help but notice.

Many people have glanced a peek at my watch but never said anything. We are visual creatures and we notice. We notice who is fat, and who is not... who is cute and who is not .... who is gorgeous and who is ugly ... how much we let it affect us, that's a different issue.

We all know what expensive stuff is and what isn't. ROLEX is a name you clearly can't claim ignorance to and say "ROLEX is what"? I can understand someone not knowing a shoe manufacturer or a handbag manufacturer, but the name ROLEX, people know it like they know their own name. And when you know the name, you know what it looks like because all watches I see are imitations of ROLEX. Time is something man is striving to capture and be on top of since beginning of history and when it comes to time, ROLEX rules.

So many people act like they don't notice, but they do. Since I am into watches, I from far away see the watch a person is wearing before they can blink ......

Once in a room full of strangers at a party some one said pointing at me "well I am not wearing a $5000 watch like this guy" and the whole room fell silent ... I felt naked In this silent room, I was desparately hoping that soneone would fart and take the attention off of me ....

Whether you are into cars or not, you will know when you see a FERRARI or LAMBORGHINI ... no one will have to tell you ... same goes with watches .. you will know when you see one .....

The only time my Rolex was noticed on a consistent basis was when I USE TO visit strip clubs on a regular basis. The ladies seemed to notice things like watches, clothes, and the type of credit card I was using.

I had an interesting encounter at a bar a few weeks back. My wife and I both have Rollies, me a TT GMTIIC and the wife a TT Blk Sub. We sit at the bar next to a guy who has a solid gold President or DD, tough to tell in the dim light but unmistakably a Rolex. He eventually turns to me and asks, "so, are you two wearing matching Oysters?" I acknowledged and explained the differences. (I hate when people ask if ours match, I guess they are similar, but to us WIS's....well anyway) I told him I noticed his and he promptly responded "it's a fake". He then took it off, showed me how real it looked. At first sight it was spot on, all except for the inside of the clasp which had no Rolex inscription. It had a sweeping second hand as well. The give a way was the weight! Lighter than my SS Sub Non Date. Lighter than a Timex for that matter. He said the gold plating is holding up well. What really got me was towards the end of the encounter, he said he had a real Daytona at home. Would you wear your real Daytona or a fake? I called serious Bulls_ _t on that comment. I hate fakes!

Actually some people prefer to wear a fake watch when they go outside and wear the genuine watch while been at home. I think that this is really stupid but people have different tastes

I've had several comments on my watch since I've owned it about 3 week now...

Comments have ranged from:
"Oh dang.... niice watch!"
"Rolex? Sweet! I've never seen one in person..."
"Duuuude.... let me see!"

to....

"That can't be real..."
"It's gotta be a fake.... no way...."

I always felt that the Explorer II didn't look like the typical Rolex - al least here in Argentina, so people that noticed usually said: "Nice Watch" or "Nice Watch, what is it?. Oh, a Rolex? Doesn't look like one".
To what I answered...
