Where to get lume redone?

This is a follow-up to "A bit of a service disaster" (http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=328029) where I had a lot of help from you guys already. Summing up: a local hack relumed the hands on my 94010 Sub without asking, and now it looks like crap.

Doctor Clock isn't going to do a damn thing for me (that was clear before I even started to burn him locally) so I'm working to get my money back from my CC (surprisingly not as easy as one would expect when one has written admission of unauthorised work) and considering suing the guy. But no matter what happens, I need to get the snowflake looking right.

What should I do? Get NOS hands (expensive!) or have the hands relumed again to match the indices? It annoys me if I relume that the hands will glow and the indices won't: perhaps I should have both done.

How much of a drop in value am I going to suffer by having anything relumed? This watch was completely original when I got it, and while I didn't buy it to sell it, there's always the possibility. If I sue Doctor Clock I'll have to consider that, too.

Thanks for the help.

I used Jack at IWW to work on my 1655 service dial and hands. I like the functionality of the luminova service dial but also the look of patina that comes with tritium. I'm very happy with the result.

What I suggest it's looking for replacement hands, a period correct ones, they are out there, you just have to find them using resources from all over. Make sure the seller has a excellent feedback and check his reference. You cannot go back only forward with this problem and the solution is simple. Best of luck.

For a different opinion, I don't think your watch looks like crap now! There are plenty of people on the forums who have had their older Subs serviced by Rolex, which often means getting luminova replacement hands. I had my Tudor Sub serviced by an AD and got new hands. I think yours has a bit of cache in that the hands were relumed rather than replaced.

Two things: 1) You might feel better if you had the hands relumed to match the indices' color. 2) Not everyone is a collector--you can definitely find buyers who want watches with relumed hands and dials so they can use the watches as they were intended.

Here's mine, btw:

I can dig out the info if interested of a guy I used for my 16800. I didn't do aged lume but requested he relume a 16800 dial to match a modern 1680 replacement dial in height. He does hands as well. Cost was only $100 for the dial IIRC.

Thanks, guys. I think I'm going to have to track down some period hands. I'm a stickler for a consistent look.

search here in the want to buy parts/accessories (Rolex) section. Also search on watchrecon.com (it scans across various forums--excluding ebay, I think).
