First Time Dilemma

I'm searching for my first Rolex and I'm having an agonizing time narrowing down what I want, they're all so pretty. I originally saw the SubC. Than I started doing more research on the brand. I was also dabbling with some Omega's but my fiance convinced me I should get a Rolex first. I discovered the Daytona and I managed to try one on but I didn't fall in love with it. But, when I tried on the Daytona I also tried on a BLNR which I liked. One day I was at an AD with my fiance and she noticed the DJII. So I tried some on. I like the SS version with fluted bezel and blue Arabic numbers. My fiance also liked that one the most. But today rolls around and I caught myself looking at a pair of DJII TT models. The ivory dial with sticks and the black dial with Arabic numbers. I liked the look of the ivory dial but the AD said it's an older gentleman's watch and I'm in my early 30's. It's not a youthful watch I guess. I've always thought I was an old soul anyway ;)

What's got me on the fence is my upcoming wedding next year. Do I go for the sporty SubC No-Date or BLNR for the everyday look or the more formal SS DJII or TT DJII? I really like the extra bit of bling with the DJII, especially the TT model, which would look smashing in a tux. I'd appreciate some opinions on the matter. I like them all for different reasons. Is the TT DJII an everyday watch? Can it be? Is the TT DJII a status symbol or am I thinking about it too much? Ive been offered a decent discount on the DJII by the AD which is why I'm leaning towards them.

Someone told me to buy the watch I like. Well, I like them all.... for different reasons.

Have you considered the TT SubC? It's quite versatile in all situations. That might be yet another option for you. Try it on, you might like it. Good luck!

Hi, i've been there and shared the same dilemma. I like the DJ ll, but i personally wouldn't buy one at this time in my life, i'm in my late 30's and as of now only go with the sport models. A sub c or the blnr will work perfectly with a suit, tux etc. both are awesome watches, i had them both and they both have great presence while wearing a t-shirt or a dress shirt. As far as a status symbol, in the past yes, these days not so much imo. A amex black card total status symbol.

Go for the one that you like the best and wear it all the time. There is a good chance before you know it you will buy another and another... Best of Luck!

Yes, this seems ideal for you, great for everday but dressy enough for a wedding and wont outrage the in laws.

The TT Sub fits nicely between your two choices. Don't buy the model most discounted unless it is the one that is for you.

It's hard for me to tell you what will eventually be the best watch for you. All I can really say is my experience was that the Sub C sang to me and never stopped. I think it looks as good while wearing my suit as it does wear a t shirt. Since you mentioned that this was your original choice maybe you should revisit that "gut" feeling. Good luck!

I own both and can tell you they are both equally perfect for everyday wear!

I would get a sub date. It's a classic and goes well with everything.

I would consider maybe a TT Sub C black or even a GMT TT.

Although that being said maybe the DJII fluted bezel with blue face and baton markers is best for you.

Not sporty, not too old. Great dress watch.

With that being said, many people told me that you are not supposed to wear a watch with a Tux BUT i don't believe that!

I have both the Sub C and the DJ II Arabic dial you spoke of. I wear my sub everyday but would wear the DJ as well. I prefer to wear the sub everyday because to me its such a workhorse type watch. The DJ with all it's bling is a little more dressy so I've just decided to make it that but either work in just about any situation. If I could only have one, I would definitely start with the Sub.

I went through the same thing last year when I first got into Rolex. I now have the DJII in SS and love it everyday. It works dressed down in jeans, and I even wore it as a best man in a wedding last week. Personally, I do not like TT dressed up, I think it looks better casual (hence why my 16613 is my casual watch).

Here is my favorite all around Rolex. Try it on, I didn't like it too much in pics, but it looks so good on.

Never buy solely to get a discount
Figure out which one you like the most, and then you realize why people own more than one

You can never go wrong with a no date Submariner, never.

Sounds like you have your heart set on either SS or TT DJII and don't listen to the AD regarding the ivory dial as too "old". There's no such thing. I can tell you that I wore a tt dj everyday for 4 years so definitely you can handle the tt djII as a daily. And don't think of any Rolex as a status symbol but rather as a reward for all your hard work.

Raffi is the location I've been trying on all these watches. It's been a one stop shop for me because my fiance and I are looking at specific wedding bands from them as well. So, I tell her I'm going in to get a quote on wedding bands than I sneak into the Rolex boutique for some eye candy. I work in the area so it's a bit too easy for me to get there ;)

This really is the best advice for you. Also don't listen to the AD's comments regarding "an older gentleman's watch". That's total BS. You mentioned both you and your fiance liked the DJII with fluted bezel and blue Arabic numbers. This may be your best selection as it may come with side benefits.

Again, my vote is still GMT, black bezel. You can swap out bands and several bezels. A tremendous value

And by the way. NOTHING wrong with Omega. I own both and love them equally.

Buy what you see yourself wearing daily, in a suit, and the beach, anywhere.

I think a stainless steel new GMT is a solid start, you can add a datejust later on..
