Interesting find
I was looking over my late Grandpa's 1964 GMT today and came upon this number hand engraved on the bottom of the 11:00 lug. I've had this watch quite a few years and never noticed it before. Has anyone seen this or would like to venture a guess as to why it was put there? The number does not correlate in any way with the serial or model #. I suspect it was a watchmakers mark or something.

Yes its a marking they used in service.a very common practice among traditional watchmakers in order to keep track parts. Great watch you got there.

Looks like it's in great shape. Every watch tells a story.
