Trying on $1m+ watches - Dubai mall (rolex & others)

I've posted this elsewhere so forgive me if you've already seen it, but thought it was worth sharing;

I went to Dubai a few weeks ago, and whilst the Mrs was sunbathing I donned the AP, and took to Dubai mall to do some watch window/wrist shopping with watches you don't see everyday :)

Richard Mille Boutique

Rolex

Cartier

Parmigianni

AP

This watch weighed an absolute tonne! don't know how anyone could wear it comfortably

Ulysse Nardin

And now for some really brash horrible stuff...

$200k Mont blanc solid gold pen anyone?

And finally a couple of my own holiday snaps :)

Wow.

I'm floored.

I'll be in Dubai in a few weeks. As well as India.

But nonetheless, I have to check this out.

Any cultural tips?

Didn't buy any there, but bought one when I came back which should be incoming this week (on the AP thread ;) )

As for the cultural tips...wear an expensive watch round the mall and watch the sales assistants treat you like a sheikh :)

Crikey, how long were you in there for? Presumably to get in you have to swipe your expensive watch on some sort of door reader and it only opens if your watch is expensive enough...? :-)

Just be yourself and use common sense when a foreign country. People in Dubai are used to tourists and are generally very friendly. It's a relatively safe town.

Enjoy it.

Its a great piece. My Dad wears the white face everyday on a bracelet. I really liked the look on the croc. Maybe for a gift....

I was in Dubai for two weeks in January and you're absolutely right! I dragged my GF to every watch store in the Dubai mall and at the mall of the Emirates. I doubt the sales people would have let some young American guy try on as much as I did if it weren't for the GMTII on my wrist.

Little did they know, I was broke from the flights and the hotels haha.

The only people to give me any trouble (pushy salesman) were the guys at Ahmed Seddiqui (sp) in the Burjuman center.

You know that's funny but your right -the Cartier dials from a classic balanced ascetic point are about perfect.

Nice! Not because it is my watch of choice, but the SS 44 ROO can hold its own with the best of them :) Love both RM, the Sky-Dweller and the the gold AP ROO on bracelet.
