I dont see to many posts ever about day/dates. Are they popular amongst collectors? I've seen some preowned gold day/dates selling for only $5000 Why arent people snatching these bargans up, or am I missing something?

I don't think they are as popular as the sport models, also they are very expensive if a newer series. I personally don't hate them, I just think the dials are too small, for a $20,000+ watch I think it should be at least be 40mm. (I.E. Many of the new Patek models are going the bigger dial route.) Maybe many of those Day/Date President people aren't posting because they are too busy making money to pay for the Day/Date. I kidd I kidd.

Some consider the DD to be an "old man's watch", and the DD is also not the most practical watch for everyday wear, being made of solid YG, RG, WG or Platinum.

Personally, I love the DD and would buy one immediately if I had the funds. IMHO, it's THE Rolex icon out there among the non-sport's Rolex watches.

I would only wear it on special occasions, though, since for everyday use a steel Rolex is just more practical, as stated.

Yes, I've seen them on alot of older guys that probably are not the type to post on forums. I don't think they are as popular as others though, due to price and style. I wonder how many Subs are sold compared to DDs at ADs?

There are a lot of men in my family, including my step-father for near 40 years, who only wear the DD and no other watch. I thought it was a beautiful watch when I was a kid, but now it seems way too obvious to me. I've worn one many times, but I don't want one. I was offered a trade on a sub recently for a black dial with sticks, but it's not for me. (Although, that's the only one that appeals to me.)

I guess it will always look too much like an old man's watch to me.

Of late, I have not seen too many "bargains" on DD given the high price of gold...however, I think they are good watches to own. Some have stated, perhaps correctly, that they are more of an "old mans watch." On the contrary, I would argue that it is one of the most recognizable Rolex models. I bought mine about 18 months ago with the idea that it would be a "special occasion" watch. However, I tend to wear it most days....I think it looks pretty good on a 33 year old....So does my TT DJ and TT Sub...

Been looking for one myself,must be feeling old (but I still have my TT Blue sub for the younger look) and still trying to get a feel for what seems to be the three price ranges for high condition ones from the grey dealers.
The pre heavy bracelet full lug 8-10K
the 11823 with the new bracelet but not clasp (2000-2003?)13-14K
the latest with the new bracelet,full clasp and bezel engraved 15-16k

i havent seen many "real" rolex solid gold anything go for $5000; there are a lot of fakes out there, and the pricing may be misleading.

i wear day/date models all the time. some i only wear out at night, others at work. depends on the circumstances.

I agree, I don't think they are an old mans watch at all. The (young) chef Bobby Flay wears a gold President on his shows and it looks just beautiful. If I could swing it, I'd love a gold President.

Im in my mid 30's and I love my TT Datejust and TT Black Sub, but the President with white face, gold roman dial is my grail watch. I personally would prefer it in a 40mm, but Im a big guy. The 36mm Datejust that I have looks a tad small on my wrist, but I would definitely buy the President if I had the funds to do so!

I would absolutely love to have either a WG or Platinum DD. I simply can't afford to buy one. Tried one on several weeks ago and thought they were amazing. The size doesn't bother me as I have thin wrists.

Its my grail watch & I have wanted one for 25 years, but couldn't afford one,if I had the money then I certainly would of got one.

IMO, the President model is less popular because of the price. Newer pre-owned models (2000 - Present) can cost 13-17K. Brand new models are almost 25K. Add a diamond dial or bezel and you are quickly entering another relm.

I don't buy the term old mans watch at all...sorry.

I think the President is more "rare" (ie. less popular) due to its price. I am 35 and just bought this 4 mo's ago. I wear it every day

Does not have to be misleading or fake, ROLEX has been making the DD President models for almost 60 years. There are plenty of Authentic 30-50 year old Presidents out there on the market for $5000-7000. Plastic crystals, non-quick set movements, etc... Please keep in mind in 1972 the 18k Yellow Gold President was only $1400 (ROLEX List). Any original owners selling them are thinking they are tripling the money.

I bought mine pre-owned in 1988 for $6600 when I was 38. It's an 1981 vintage DD and I added the black diamond dial when I bought it. I wore it daily for several years until the mainspring broke. I just got it back from repair and am going to add a link to fit my fat wrist since I haven't worn it for a few years and have gained weight. I plan to wear it to work like I did before.

In 1988, new DD's were going for $14,000 I believe, but I could have a faulty memory since I must now be an old man since I wear a DD.

I agree with Kurt! The DD is a grail Rolex for me, but way out of my budget for the time being.
