Incoming, should be happy, but feeling uneasy....

Long story short I have been looking at the BLNR since it was introduced. Blue is my favorite color, I loved it and wanted it, but just couldn't justify spending $9k and finding one wasn't easy.

Well today I got a call from my AD saying that I was on the top of the list.
I have never bought new in an AD before and I was pretty excited.
Bought my 114060 new from DavidSW, but wanted the AD experience sometime in my life.

All this to say I rushed down with the family and picked up my new BLNR, the watch I have been dreaming of, but as I got to the car my stomach sank, I just spend how much on a watch! Literally I felt like I was going to throw up haha

I didn't feel this way when I bought my 114060 and not sure what I should do.

I put it in the box and when I got home put it in the safe. I am just not sure what to do, will this feeling wear off and will I enjoy it, or should I just be content with my Sub and now sell the BLNR and move on... what would you do?

Be happy...you've just moved $9000 from your savings account into a different type of savings account but one which you can enjoy.....wear it and in a few years you'll gt more than $9000 back should you wish to trade it.

Think of it like this........you could have just gone out and bought an $80,000 Cadillac Escalade that will be worth $5,000 in 10 years.......but you didn't. You bought a Rolex BLNR that will likely be worth $11,000 (give or take) in 10 years even though it is all scratched-up and you have worn the hell out of it. IMHO, that is a really decent place to put your money.

Enjoy your watch and forget about how much it costs. If you keep your watch for 10 years (you can easily keep it for 20,30,40+ years), the cost of ownership per day is less than a cup of coffee from Starbucks. When you think of it like that, it's not too bad.

It will pass, I'm sure of it. When spending such a large amount on anything you always feel a little buyers remorse for a short time. It will last a couple of days at most, the enjoyment you get from the watch will last the rest of your life if you want it to and are happy to keep it.
I am going to my AD this evening to hopefully get the same piece. I have been in love with it since the first pictures from Basel that I saw of it. My favourite colour is also Blue.
Almost everything I own is blue or has blue in it or on it.

Three Rolex watches and I've never felt that way even after five years after the initial purchase.

Once I added up how much money I had tied up in Rolex watches and I wondered what it'd be like if I had that much more in my savings account.

A half second later, I figured than extra $20k in the bank would just be extra $20k in the bank, which is not nearly as desirable as having three Rolex watches in the bank, which is where I keep the ones I'm not wearing.

So, I really can't relate to that feeling, but I think I can say that now that you've paid for the watch, wear the darned thing.

I know exactly what you mean. Each time I spent several thousand dollars on a watch I experience the same feeling and doubts. However, in my case it always wears off after several weeks.

This is not abnormal. If anything else, it proves that you are aware of the value of money and that you are responsible in the ways you spend it.
This feeling will go away after a while, so enjoy the watch. If push comes to shove and you urgently need the cash, you can always sell it back. That money isn't gone, it just shifted from one side of the balance to another

Most of us pass through this, and as long as you feel like this after spending that cash on a watch, it means that you are will only appreciate and value it more!

When you purchased your 114060 from DavidSW, you knew that you were getting a great deal by buying the same BNIB watch that the AD had in his showcase but at a discount and that instantly added value to your purchase. With the GMT that you purchased, you didn't get the same discount so naturally the feeling that you got a great deal wasn't there and that might be driving your buyers remorse but that shouldn't take away from the great watch that you just purchased. If you have been wanting this watch since it came out , I'm sure you will do fine in a couple of days. Enjoy!

Sell one or the other.

You don't need two rolexes if it makes you feel uneasy. Especially two with such similar case shape and characteristics. I'm sure everyone on this board will tell you they each have different histories/legacies blahblahblahblah.

But in real life, 98% of the population will tell you a rolex is a rolex and that's that. I say pick the one you like and get rid of the other. 6k or 9k is a lot of money that can be spend on a whole list of different things other than a second rolex.

I felt the same after acquiring my Aquanaut, and have had a bumpy ownership experience (it was also my first ever AD experience, and I did not enjoy it or their attitude to my concerns post purchase). Time over I probably would not have done it, and if someone wanted to buy it I would sell it. Truth is we all only need one watch, I think the feeling probably tells you that you don't have unlimited Rolex ownership desires, and that is no bad thing (nor is the reverse). I am decreasing my collection because in my mind I cant justify it, but that said you really cant pick much safer an investment, I dont subscribe to the Escalade comparison, for a few reasons, there are cars out there you can make money on and still enjoy, i did this with a Porsche in the last 4 years, the Escalade is also a tool of utility to get you around, so it is not a true comparison, yes I know a Rolex tells time so works 24/7 but so does a $5 digital watch. You own a Rolex for more reasons than telling the time.

I think your guilt will pass and the watch is a lovely piece. You have made as safe a decision as you can, take comfort in that, had you bought a blingy new Piaget at list price may have been a tougher comment, the fact that Coke's/Pepsi's are still popular today means the BLNR is a safe choice, and in many countries in the last decade is SAFER than houses. If you are limiting your families lifestyle by the purchase then it may be time to stop, if you can still do all the things you want to including holidays and not impacting your ability to make car payments, mortgage etc then relax and enjoy the hottest Rolex of the last 3 years.

Personally, if I don't feel good about a purchase, I won't enjoy it.
If that's the case, then there's no sense in keeping it.
For many people, that feeling wears off. Some not so much.

This. I go through this every time on a major purchase too. The key with these types of purchases is can you comfortably afford it and as a bonus is it a good investment. I have been anguishing over whether to spend over $500k on a house remodel. My finance guy told me "what are you worried about? you can afford it, you're probably going to live there for the next ten years and will get a substantial portion of your money back". Where people get in trouble is if they have to cut corners or finance to buy luxury items--at least that's my opinion.
