incoming, not again. 16710
I really wasn t looking to buy a watch today but here s what happened.
Stopped in where I just bought my new AK. After buying new I thought if I ever saw something pre owner nice at the right price I d buy it. My salemen , who I now have a trusted relationship with, came out of the back with a GMT, 16710. He sold it new in 2003 and it was a 2001 serial #. He got it back from original owner and had box and original purchase warrenty cert.. So it has the Coke bezel and it was very clean. Still has the green sticker on back of watch. It has never been opened and was running fine. Oyster braclet. So I made the mistake of trying it on. 40mm (which I thought I d never wear), and it was great looking to my surprise. I have a 34mm AK, 39MM tag and now this. So after lunch I went back and bought it. Getting it s first polish for free and really was really clean, esp the case, dial and even the band was very good condition. So a clean watch, one owner, same dealer, green sticker and this is my last watch , LOL. I didn t have time to research the prices but this is the lowest price I have ever seen on this model. My thoughts are to wear it a while before I send it in for service. Pic s to follow. Does this all sound reasonable???

Sounds great to me. The GMT is such a fun watch and in my opinion (biased lol) the most versatile Rolex there is.

If the case really was clean, I would have skipped that free polish. A mediocre hand polish (rather than a lapping machine) will kill the stock chamfers far too often. If it's not too late, I'd consider cleaning up the bracelet but keeping the case original.

Sounds good to me. Looking forward to some pics. As for the price as long as your happy that's really all that matters.

Sounds good. First thing I would do is take off that green sticker. Lots of mess under there, and adds zero value to the watch.

I'd get it serviced and take the sticker off, but that's just me.
Congrats on your good find! |

feel free to tell me what I got because this was an unplanned event.... what do the different bezel colors mean on all of the GMTs? Thanks all.

Enjoy it for a couple of months then get a proper RSC service and I agree I would ditch the sticker, great choice of watch and a keeper for life.

Excellent ! Enjoy. Its a black-red insert because it is a GMT II. You can change for a black if you so wish.
Bellow a GMT with blue-red and my ex GMT II with faded insert. My brother in law who wears it now, changed the insert to a black on. I kept the faded.

The different coloured bezel inserts don't really 'mean' anything, but some were only available on certain models of older GMTs. On yours, all three were available, so you can get the extra ones if you like, and still be authentic, although prices are sky high right now...I have seen US$200 each for inserts charged here on TRF. The dual-coloured ones are supposed to make it easier to differentiate daylight and nighttime hours.
