First Time Buyer -- Need help deciding among...

Hi Guys, long time lurker...finally going to pull the trigger on my first used Rolex later this Spring. I honestly cannot decide between these two watches. Here are my thoughts.

Submariner Date 16610: Pros: As classic as they come...can wear with anything from formal wear to jeans and a Tshirt. Cons: Very common and "safe"

Explorer 2 Polar 16570: Pros: I don't see too many of them, white face is nice Summar watch, love the bezel..Cons: what if the white face doesnt look as sharp on my arm, is it too understated, and will i regret not going for the sure thing, the sub.

As a first (and only for the time being) go for the Submariner.

I would go with the sub… but if you are considering a used Sub, i would take a serious look at a used Sea Dweller for consideration.

My wrist is on the small side and I feel like the added bulk might not sit well.

I had to make about the same choice a month ago. I was sure I wanted the
polar explorer. Went to an AD 65 miles away and tried on both. Not only did I like the black faced explorer better but I liked the sub above all. I also decided
on the no date sub 114060. So the moral to this story is try them both on and
you will know.

Some great advice...really appreciate the insights from all whom responded. Will keep you posted on the decision process.

The 40mm Explorer 2 is just about the only pre-ceramic Rolex that I feel is currently a good deal. I'd put the inherent cost difference into a much nicer Exp2 if money is any sort of consideration in your purchase.

That said, common or not, the Sub is corner stone of future collections.

I love the look of the black hands on the white EXII dial, and had the opportunity to wear one for a week...It was better in pictures than on my wrist!

You can't go wrong with a Sub!

I own both these watches - the Sub for 10 years and just picked up the Polar recently. They really are completely different, obviously in looks, but also the way they feel on the wrist. I'd do the Sub first although they both are very versatile.

It looks like the Sub is getting more votes. But, I'm for the Exp II (even though I have a Sub). It flies under the radar just a little bit more and I prefer the second timezone feature. Also, of the Rolex sports models, it seems the 16570 is the best deal going right now. I mean, it's the most watch for the price, IMHO.

isn't the black exp2 the natural compromise based on the two choices and pros cons comments???

you'll also pocket upwards to $1500 on a black exp2 over a sub of the same vintage and equiv condition.

You need to go try both on and see what feels and looks good to you. As it's been mentioned they are two very different watches and will feel different on your wrist.
I own them both and make a great Two-watch pair to rotate if that's in your budget.
