New member, first post & an interesting AD experience
Hello everyone,
I've read many a post on this forum and a recent interesting experience at an authorised dealer prompted me to register! so here I am, my name is James, a photographer from Cheshire, England, here's my pride and joy, a lovely G-serial 14060m, my first and only rolex so far.  so anyway, I've just got back from a holiday in Tenerife, and was looking in the windows of the AD in Playa De Las Americas, upon seeing the 114060 I decided to pop in and have a little comparison between that and my submariner, Whilst I was looking at the 114060 on my wrist, the saleswoman picked up mine and had a look at it, when she put it down I picked both up and was comparing them in profile, at this point she started tugging the 114060 off me said "You cannot compare these watches, this (the 114060) is a genuine real rolex, yours is maybe a good 500 euro replica!" Needless to say I was dumbfounded, and as i was putting mine back on my wrist without saying a word she continued "you see, yours has holes in the case, on a real rolex they don't go all the way through, plus it is very light compared to the real one" At this point i was most confused, and with my spanish not being really up to par I decided to leave it at that! I'm sure this particular saleswoman couldn't have been an actual rolex salesperson, as this AD was part of a larger jewellers yet that lack of knowledge is still worrying, has anybody else had this happen to them?! Afraid today many ADs salespersons know absolutely nothing about the product or past products they used to sell.

Unfortunately this is not the first time a story like this gets posted on the forums.
Salespersons should know better but often don't. I am sure this left a bitter taste in your mouth but the only thing you could possibly do was to ask to talk with a manager and bla bla bla... worth it? It depends. |

Interesting story. I went to an ad 2 weeks ago for my mom because she wanted to look at a diamond besal and dial 31mm ladies datejust. And I already told her everything about the watch in 1 minute before a sales person even came up. It was funny because the manager at the store overheard how well I explained all the components of the watch and he was trying to get my to apply for a job there!

 Welcome to TRF James. I wish I had been with you to help translate. I'm not a native Spanish speaker but I'm fluent enough and I would have enjoyed given her an "education" in the evolution of Submariners. But in the end, you know your watch is real. Who cares what La Tonta thinks?

Welcome, James. Sorry to hear of your troubles. The folks here know an awful lot and are willing to share their hard earned knowledge. I only found this forum after a couple of bad experiences. I got here late, but Im glad I got here.

Welcome, James. Unfortunately, there are a lot of misinformed people out there. You'd think that somebody in sales should know the product they're selling, but more often than not, you know more than they do. With an attitude like that, that woman will surely have a short career in sales.

I had a saleswoman at Ben Bridge look at my watch. She was drop dead gorgeous she looks me straight in the eyes and says "I'm sorry to inform you that your watch is a fake." I couldn't help myself I started laughing out loud poor thing.

Your one and only Rolex is looking good on your wrist man. Don't worry to much what salespeople say in these shops... nothing wrong with the lugholes in the case of your Rolex as most vintage collectors will tell you too ! Hope you will enjoy it here man. |

I pop in for coffee and we just talk watches. I think some are better than others... |
