Cellini

Just curious, as I don't see too many, what are your thoughts on the Cellini line? I've seen a few with a second hand, which I like, but other than that, I have mixed feelings about them.

Personally, I don't like the Cellini line. If I had to buy such a classic gold watch, I would probably buy a Patek. For me, Rolex only if oyster case!

I like the new Basel 2014 ones. The time only was very elegant, I hope the continue to work on this line. The old ones were mostly plain and a bit boring, except the Prince.

That's what I thought too.

The new Cellini line is awesome. Rolex hit a grand slam, I think. It complements the oyster collection very, very well.

I really like the rectangular Price models. The ones that came out this year are nice, I wish they had incorporated roman numerals though.

Hi,

I'm a big fan of the Cellini line myself, both the old pre-existing range and the new Basel-announced ones. I own a Cellini Classic ref. 5115/8 in yellow gold, with a decorated mother-of-pearl dial. I picked it because it had a dial unlike any I've ever seen, and I think it's actually my favourite dial of any watch.

Whilst it remains to be seen what exactly the future holds for the Cellini line as a whole, speaking for the existing range I think it had something to offer anyone who was in the market for a dress watch. And (odd though it may be to think it where Rolex is concerned) Cellinis actually offer very good value for money. When you think about it you're getting a solid-gold dress watch on a leather strap for about the same price as a white Rolesor Datejust, and certainly for far less than most other manufacture's dress watches.

In response to that many would no doubt say that the quality of watch you get from Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek et al is greater than that you get with a Rolex Cellini. And whilst that's no doubt true for the movement, when it comes to the actual function and form of the piece itself - simple time-only watches in precious metals on a leather strap - I'd say the Cellini line is definitely worth a look, and does exactly what a dress watch needs to do and does it well. You're still getting the usual Rolex build quality you'd get in an Oyster, though of course you wouldn't go diving with a Cellini !

In closing, here's a wrist shot of mine in which I've tried to capture the look of the decorated MOP dial.

I'm on the fence until I see one in person. No doubt the line has a nice look to it, but 36 is pretty much my limit for any non-"sports" watch.

I can see why you chose that one. Gorgeous dial!

The simplistic elegance of this is exquisite IMHO.

Agreed, very nice. I wonder if it is the same auto movement you find in the Oyster range?

Hard not to pay attention to the new ones, the old ones left me flat. I think that's pretty much been said but I wanted to say "hi" to my pal Mark-O!!

I have yet to see one that I like in person. The ones I see seem to be fairly small for my liking. Excited about the new releases, but not the price.

I think the new line looks great and I'm a much bigger fan now that the case has been enlarged.

My first Rolex was a vintage Cellini. Always very good looking. The new ones are awesome.

Love the new ones this year.
Never cared for any in the previous line up.
