Vintage Tissot: What Say Ye?

I'm going to Las Vegas for two weeks next month and I didn't want to wear any of my Rolex watches, just for safety's sake.

I have too much experience on tough streets and I've never been to "Vegas."

I wanted an inexpensive watch that wasn't run of the mill, so last night I bought a Vintage Tissot on ebay that looks pretty good to my eye and yes, I did buy the seller first--Lots of sales, excellent record.

I just want some opinions about the watch, if you would be so kind.

Scroll down the page to see the watch, description, and other photos.

Tissot is to Omega as Tudor is to Rolex. You'll have no worries with this one

I like this watch. The vintage look is stunning and I would definitely keep it.

By the way, do not be afraid of wearing a Rolex in Vegas. The main streets are patrolled and the city is quite used to people of all makes and sizes.

Thanks for the compliment about the watch.

My concern about the streets of Las Vegas is that I'm notorious for finding myself off the beaten path looking for those places tourists never see.

Sometimes, those places and their neighborhoods can be rough.

Well, my vintage Tissot was delivered today, but I was bowling in a tournament and the apartment office was closed and there was no one to sign for it, so Monday I'll have to get up bright and early to go to the Post Office to pick it up, which is never a pleasant experience.

However, as I was looking around for some cheap but cool watches to wear to Las Vegas, I ran across this beauty. It's very chintzy, even at the low price, but I like it.

I know some purists will be offended, but I just couldn't resist. At least, I'll have some inkling of how it must feel to wear a Rolex Prince. It was after all an Invicta Pro Diver that convinced me that I could live with an automatic watch again and led to the purchase of my first Rolex. The rest, as they say, is history.

This one is definitely going to "Sin City."

I can't wait to get a look at the Tissot.

Okay, I guess I'm getting a little carried away. After wearing the Peugeot for a few hours, I liked the look so much that I decided to see what I could find in a rectangular watch, even it it wasn't quite as elongated as the Peugeot.

So, after some looking around I found this 1939 Vintage Hamilton Ross, which looks pretty darned good and has been recently serviced and comes with a one year warranty.

That Hamilton is a good looking and perfect watch for Vegas.

With it's built in roulette wheel it will blend in perfectly.

Edit: Just looked at the e-bay listing, good deal.

The Tissot is in and boy is this a beautiful watch and at 36mm, it is my ideal size.

I wish I had a better picture to offer than this S5 one, but let me tell you, it is way better looking than this picture. In fact, it looks about 1000 times better in reality. The dial is very clean.

I took it by my ADs watchmaker, whom I don't know as well as I did the last one, but I know he's good by how well he regulated my Sub the last time.

According to his machine, the watch is gaining from +40 - +60 seconds per day, which I think is excellent for a 60 year old watch.

I let him keep it so he can check it out more closely and he can give it a service if necessary. He said that the watch is great shape, but that there might be some dry spots internally that could account for the timing.

I like the watch so much that I'm not really concerned if he recommends a complete service. It's worth it to me to make sure that it lasts at least as long as I do.

You know, I think it all boils down to this - at least for me - when it comes to watches. What other material possesion can you have that is still functional when 60 years have passed? I mean, after 60 years it is time to re-brick a house. It is really remarkable. My next watch will be a vintage watch of some sort, thinking about a bubble back, what a great way to keep a link to history

My math was off. The watch is about 50 years old, but your point is no less valid and vintage watches are a great way to have a tangible, functional link to the past.

I can't wait for my 1939 Hamilton Ross to come in. It's a beauty in the pictures.

Sweet watch, someone may still mug you for it. Cause its classy and expensive looking. Lots of people (me included) love Tissot. I go watchless in Vegas, just use my cell phone to get the time.

I'm actually backing off wearing the vintage watches.

I haven't gotten the Hamilton, yet, but if it's as nice as the Tissot turned out to be, I won't want to take it either.

I have some lesser watches that I can wear instead.

Chris, once I've been to Vegas, I'll have a better idea of the town. I'm not even comfortable wearing my Rolex watches when I go back to my hometown, it's gotten so bad, but since I grew up there, I know how and when to stay low key.
