Pelagos vs. Grantour....and an introduction!

First, fellow watch aficionados, I would like to introduce myself as I am new to this forum. I am an American academic living and working in the Middle East and have always loved watches. My "real" watch history began at age 23 or so when I bought my first Rolex (Air King) which I promptly traded for an Explorer I which I owned for a few years before upgrading to a Sea Dweller and Tudor Big Block Chrono. For various reasons, not the least of which being that I really preferred more understatement in watches, they are all gone now.

With Tudor's apparent new direction though, I am intrigued by the more youthful and sporting image of the brand and also really enthralled by the retro vibe they are presenting. Given that, I currently have a dilemma. My locale (Cairo) and the political/economic uncertainty here means you can easily imagine how little traffic my AD gets. This of course means there are great deals to be had, but also that there is NOT likely to be any new inventory coming in any time soon. NO Black Bays or Pelagos or Rangers to be ordered here any time soon.

This is my dilemma....I can get a black face Gran Tour Date with bracelet (which I like) for a screaming deal (must be close to dealer wholesale price) but if I want the Pelagos (which I love) then I have to pick it up in the US when I am next there and will likely pay close to double what I can get the GT Date for right now

Any advice? Wait for what I want or go bargain hunting?

Get what you really want.
I wouldn't buy just because something is a "good deal".

I think you answered your own question above. If you go for the "bargain" you will still want the Pelagos and will eventually get it, spending more in the long run than if you get what you want NOW. Good luck and welcome

Welcome

I do like the Pelagos - in fact it could be the nicest dive watch in the entire Rolex/Tudor range

Thanks so much for the advice and warm welcome! I am a bit surprised no one has offered the standard advice when a watch nut is facing a conundrum like this....."Buy both". :)

To somewhat scratch the itch I did just buy this for my wife as this will be her first "Mother's day" this year (baby due in six weeks). :)

If prices are that low in the Cairo AD, I would consider revisiting Rolex. Good luck with your decision and welcome.
