Dial Refinishing?

Has anyone ever had their dial refinished? If so, is it expensive? Or, would it be better to find a replacement dial. Specifically, I was thinking of refinishing a dial for an Oysterquartz 17000. Is there someone here on TRF that is recommended?

Generally refinishing a dial is not recommended because of the huge devaluation hit it takes and the loss of RSC support. An exception would be a very rare dial that is being repaired, but still, that is not refinishing.

If the dial is so bad that it needs to be replaced, a service replacement would be more proper (valuable) than a refinished dial.

There are many, many excellent refinished dials out there though.

Is it a COSC dial or a single line 'oysterquartz' dial? If the latter, I would leave it as those are pretty rare.

Thanks Larry and Adam! It's not the Oysterquartz version. I'm glad you mentioned this guys. I will keep it the same.

I had a dial refinish done on my father in laws 1500 from 1964ish as a Father's Day gift after he inherited it from his dad at his passing. Didn't want to sink too much into the watch as it would exceed the watch value, but keeping the original dial had sentimental value to him. So the "refinish" restored the original text, new acrylic, etc. Well worth it IMO.

Your refinishing came out really nice, Brad. Was it expensive? When did you do it?
