So Which Would You Choose?
I spotted this from the new 2008 pricelist kindly provided by Anastasios:
16570 Oyster Perpetual Explorer II US$5750 16710 Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II US$5750 16570 has a choice of black or white dials 16710 has a choice of bezel colors Same movement I believe...... At this time, my choice would be the Explorer WD because I already have a black dial SD. If I didn't have my SD, then I would choose the GMT with the all black bezel. Cheers Steve |

I prefer the fixed sloping bezel of the Exp-II....but go with whichever one smiles back at you, Steve. Both very fine timepieces. JJ

I agree with you Steve, I vote for the Expy as well!!
It has been the watch I have owned for the longest at almost 7 years now. I can't stop saying good things about it. Just checked the movement with an internet clock for the last couple days and it was at -1 sec/day. Thats as good as it gets, considering the watch is almost 7 years old and it sill hasn't seen the RSC yet!!!

I'm a big GMT fan, but since you already have the SD, I'd go with the white Ex-II

Tough call. Both are great watches that share alot of the same DNA. I would go for the GMT.... But hey its all down to personal choice. You cant really loose with either !!!
As stated by some other people. The fact that you already have a black dial on your SD would make the EXP II a nice contrast. Choosing between two great watches in a great problem to have !! Good luck :) |

Man that's tougher than I thought it would be.
I already have a Coke Gmt2, and have recently tried on the explorer. Here's what I think about the two at this point in time. pros for the explorer are: -- seems a little more comfortable on the wrist. -- at this point I am liking the non-black dials. I think the cyclops doesn't look as obnoxious on a lighter dial. Also dirt and smudges don't show up as well. -- I think it actually looks better on the wrist than the gmt2. pros for the gmt2. -- has the moveable bezel that can be very useful for day to day minor timings, and lets you track a third timezone. -- seems to be a more valued commodity. That's why I picked the Explorer2 in your poll.

From everyones pictures on the forum, I would choose the Explorer without a doubt. After trying on both watches I found that I liked the GMTII much more! If possible, go to an AD and try on both models before you make a decision.

I voted Expy because I already have 2 GMT's. However, if I had neither, I'd take the GMT. A classic watch that is no longer in production.

Tough call, Steve. But when I got into the voting booth, I had to go with the GMT. It just has everything the Exp has and more. The fact that you already have a black dial SD doesn't phase me. I've got plenty of black face watches and a couple white. I tend to gravitate to the black, personally.
But as others have said, test drive both. One will smile at you more. That one's yours.

I would go for the GMT II, Steve!
You get a much more versatile watch with this one, being able to change bezel inserts or get a Jubilee bracelet for it.

I have the Exp II in white and think it is a perfect compliment to my SD. I find the white wears well with a suit and the slope of the bezel is a little more dressy. Go fot the Explorer being you already have a black dial.

I have been trying to decide between a GMT2 coke and a white explorer and I'm leaning towards the white explorer! Just something about it!
So I voted white expy! |

Thanks Nick, but I'm a sucker for white dials. If I'm giving one up, it's nice to replace it with another....plus, I'm not the type to switch out bracelets.

16710...In Pepsi Bezel...
I opinion here is choose GMT II 16710. Because Rolex already discountinued it. And the value is going up here in Asia (Singapore and Indonesia is already up their 16710!!!). Just my humble opinion, Sir...

I tend to lean towards the GMT II also. I had this same decision to make a week ago & I chose the GMT II pepsi. Even though I like the coke insert, I think the pepsi is the classic look of GMT. IMHO I think it's little more watch than the Expy.
