Why I love the 372
This pic pretty much explains it for me. Plexi, matte sandwich dial, gold hands, engraved text, polished 47mm case:

Really the question is "why wouldn't you love the 372?"

I prefer to have the sapphire crystal 372 but same size and same shape.
plexi looks cheap and easy broke. |

Can you guys explain to me the beauty of the plexi glass as I am seriously considering getting a 372 but i am not sure what all the hype is about the plexi. Otherwise, the 422 might be a better option. Please help

some love the "warm glow" of plexi. and then there's the "DNA" aspect of having something closer to the original that will also develop a nice patina. plus, there's polywatch to fix things up and there's a second plexi included with the 372.... |

Love the look of the 372, but the 422 pips it for me as I like to have the third hand
Plexi vs. sapphire is a non-issue for me, as I like the merits of both

In person the 372 looks amazing. However, as others have mentioned, I'll take the 422 and the sapphire.

I've had my 372 since last June. Nearly a year later, I don't have any significant marks on the plexi. In the right light you can see fine little hairlines but they aren't a negative when you look at the watch; they add character rather than detract. I did buy a tube of polywatch for the day I get a real scrape...but it remains unopened and at this rate will last me a lifetime.

Since the core of Panerai is its close historical ties and tributes thereof [read: vintage], your statement makes it clear that 80% of Panerai's collection is not for you... . Stick to contemporary... Quote:

I'm good with that... I like the extra information - and movement - on the dial

Those watches all had the seconds hand in addition to the 12-3-6-9 dial rather than replacing either the 3 or the 9 with it.

I, for one, like the aesthetics of the second hand without it being crammed with the 3 or the 9 (and being smaller). I can see the appeal of the historic look, but for me the dial layout of the 422 is great. I do, however, admit to being biased, as I'm looking at a 422 at the moment.

Absolutely agree, both fantastic references, each with it's specific merits. As for my use of crammed, I think it would be nice if the traditional look didn't have the seconds hand in miniature and so close to the 3/9, especially seeing as though the case is a whooping 47mm, as you rightly pointed out.

Exactly. Sometimes I see people complaining about the existance of too many references, but I always saw that as a good thing (within some boundries, of course), as it allows us to each find the one we like the most. Nitpicking aside, only gorgeous watches posted on this thread!

I've had mine for a while and have come to the conclusion that I like my Panerais with a little wabi. Odd for me as so many of my watches are pristine. The plexi on the high gloss 372 case makes for a watch that will wear nicely over the years. The classic look with some wear is an appealing image to me as it adds to the vintage appearance. Of course buying a 6152 is the best answer but this works for me.

I've had mine for coming up on 2 years, and my plexi looks great. Never polished, don't think I ever will.
A Rolex or Omega with Plexi looks alright to me too. I've heard of a broken sapphire, but not seen any broken plexis.

I already have mine for more than a year, no significant marks on the plexi... Sometimes i believe that it is too big for mine 6,8" wrist, and wonder that it was 44mm instead of 47mm but the watch is so amazing that i can live with its size....
