At this point in my obsession I can confidently say it won't happen.

I appreciate the look and the styling of the vintage pieces. However, I'm far to consumed by the newer models to make the switch.

Agree, I really like the new models, esp the ceramics, and the vintages I really want are very highly priced.

Like both; get which ever one appeals to me at the time. Some times the vintage watch is every where as nice as the new ones and at a better price point.

The evolution can go either way. Some into vintage find their interests sway toward new, many newcomers eventually find vintage a deep well to dip from.

X2 the only vintage watch I really had eyes for was the 1803 but when I tried one on, the size was just too small

This one was a stunner though :)

I voted both because I love many of the vintage Rolex pieces and my favorite one is the platinum Daytona.

I love vintageish. I'm looking for the discontinued 16718 2005 or newer. I think as vintage goes, the jubilee being offered as well was a great option that also no longer exists.

After some soul searching, I came to the conclusion that I like modern watches, I like top quality and modern manufacturing. If I want a Datejust, I'd rather get the newest movement, Saphire crystal crisp clean dial etc..., I purchased a few vintage Rolex wateches a little while ago, I thought I would like them, but after a few months I sold them, I like new watches, and have no real interest in buying vintage ones.

Absolutely... currently on the hunt for a red-sub...

Im starting to feel more and more pressure to add some vintage pieces to my collection. Just from a $ standpoint they certainly aren't getting any cheaper. I sometimes feel like kicking myself for not realizing that 5 years ago when I got serious about this hobby. I know its taboo around here to consider watches as an investment, but I really don't think you can go wrong with a clean vintage piece, like a red sub... I think prices on those pieces will be on a continuous steady rise.

Beyond the money though, I do tend to prefer the matte dials and brushed finishes of the older sports models. The high gloss dials/ WG surrounds, PCL stuff just isn't really my style.

The more u love Rolex the more u go Vintage ?

Id like a vintage piece but all the ones I'm interested in are in a price bracket that warrants a very high level of knowledge to determine originality, relative condition, and thus fair market value. I do not have this knowledge and I fear being had, whereas with new Rolex, this problem doesn't exist.

For this reason, I'm still educating myself before dipping my feet in the pool.

From the new Rolex models the only one that I like is the new Sea Dweller & the Explorer II. All the other ones wit the fat lugs no no no no.

I really love most of the Rolex watches but I don't want to pay a lot of money for "old" watches and I rather buy new watches instead.

I also like the upgraded bracelet and clasp on new models above the old bracelets and clasps.

I like the look of certain vintage watches. I am not educated enough nor interested enough to appreciate vintage watches from a collectors angle.

I like how Rolex makes small, measured modifications to watches as time progresses.

I'm a new watch kind of guy. Although some vintage are nice to look at, I wouldn't buy one. With that said, in several years all of my watches will be vintage!

I enjoy finding and buying vintage models.

Where's the fun of walking into a shop and buying a new one...

Love and appreciate the details & style of vintage, just as I feel about classic cars...

But I first look toward practicality & serviceability, i am not willing to deal with the needs & particulars of vintage... Lugholes are as vintage as i go (even though matte dials are very desirable to me). Essentially, once the parts supply becomes a challenge, my interest turns away.

I love new and old. When I first got into Rolexes it was new, latest gen. But now that I have two modern pieces (and have gone through several other modern pieces), I've been thinking about getting vintage to building up an era collection. I really do appreciate the older designs and sensibility. I think the previous gen Subs are more evoking aesthetically, they are elegant yet practical. I love the older more elegant case, love the lug-holes, and although the earlier Oyster bracelets don't really compel me, I've grown fond of them recently. There's a place for both - and as one grows learning more about these timepieces, appreciation for them all, just naturally evolves the journey.

I love vintage watches and own a few but Rolex is a minefield and I'm not comfortable paying tons of cash just to have some patina on a Sub. Maybe if I find one with a friendly price and nice condition I'll buy it.

Having just bought a Red sub for some of the same reasons I agree. In fact, I wrote a whole thoughtpiece on it here: http://www.wristtimes.com/blog-1/201...ger-attainable

That said, I feel my collection of vintage is best rounded out with a modern piece with the upgrades to make your own history with and use as a beater. So yesterday I got the Sub NDc.

I'm a vintage guy through and through but I have no doubt that those who prefer modern enjoy their watches just as much as I do mine.
